1.
Facebook's terms of service (TOS) used to say that when you closed an account on their network, any rights they claimed to the original content you uploaded would expire.
Not anymore. Now, anything you upload to Facebook can be used by Facebook in any way they deem fit, forever, no matter what you do later. Want to close your account? Good for you, but Facebook still has the right to do whatever it wants with your old content. They can even sublicense it if they want.
Just thought I'd past this along if you use or know anyone using Facebook!

  2. Jay, I can't tell if it helps or not. I can tell you that the site is currently having major issues for some time now. I have been attempting to create a page there for over a month and a half.

To quote Josh Root "Imagepro is currently, for lack of a better phrase, messed up. I am trying to work with programmers to see what the deal is, but I have no timetable for fixing it. The problem is really that big."

That is the extent for the information they have been releasing. I would hope that if the problem is going to persist they might be inclined to give us more info or list the status above the link.

  3. Chip,

I don't understand your need to post a topic after you torched her rating. Shall we hire a censor to assure that all images are appealing to everyone? If so... lets ban images of dogs, I was bitten as a child.

I think that your rating of her work was just plain vandalisms. You did not make a critical comment... You rate it a 1 and posted this because you don't like the subject matter. If you don't like the topic... that is fine, but if you are arachnophobic are you going to rate down every image of a spider?

If you are going rate, look passed your prejudices and rate it on technique, is it a technically proficient.

I don't like opera, but I can appreciate talent.

    Just my thoughts

  4. Will,

"If you want an honest critique, ask for one?" This is what we are asking for when we post to the Critique Forum. And, for this, I will say that more times then not, it is only the very best shots that get a lot of comments. Run thur the forum anytime of day and you with find that less then 50% posted receive more than 2 comments and most of those are "Nice Job."

I read books and I practice, I post shots and hope for responses.

If you want to know Why I feel the way I do, then I personally invite you to look thru my portfolio photo by photo and see how many I have submitted for critique and how many remain Blank and then leave your own comments and/or critiques.

Do the numbers mean anything.... well. if you are getting few comments, then yes! it is the only input I am getting and I want it to be HONEST.

    Regards

    Your thoughts on my work

  5. Missing the Point!

It is easy to say the ratings don't mean anything...

The bottom line here is, most new users are drawn to P-net because they see a tool to improve that work and get honest critical response. They see the posts and high rated images and think "WOW, this site is great."

Then they join and add there photos and post a few and get CRAPPED on by a mindless bot or a random clicker.

Now they think, "wow.... is it worth renewing my account!"

The biggest problem here is the lack of accountability.

I keep hearing that fixes are on the way, and I know it is not a lot to spend for an account, and they are busy. But really... It is the Biggest flaw on the site.

Make the rating system non-anonymous... require a name and comment.... that is what the site is about, Right? Getting an honest critique!

I guess we shall wait and see!

  6. Last week I got a message from another Photo.net user saying that he had seen

one of my photos published in a magazine. He said he saw it while at a Borders

    Books.

I went to our local store and looked at all the magazines but did not see

    anything that even looked close.

He could not recall the name but thought it could have been in a photo competition.

It is a fairly distinctive shot > http://www.photo.net/photo/6385682

    Anyone seen this shot?

    Thanks

  7. Hi,

I don't know if this has been reported. I did not see it in the other posts. On

the main page of the critique forum the words run off the page on long post.

With my Mozilla 2.0 it goes beyond the gray border on the right, with IE 6.0 it

extends the border out to the end of the line.

    Screen Res is 1024/768

    Just passing it along.

    Cheers,

    John O'Berry

  8. I am really starting to think, "what is the point." I post my pictures hoping for feedback, only to be fodder for the 3/3s and now it seems the 3/4 (Or 4/3). I have been told, just place the photo for critique, but that is really a joke. It is more the "Exception to the Rule" that a comment left has any real constructive remarks. Mostly it is a comment stating, (while I appreciate them) they like the photo or good job. Most of the time you can go thru the critique forum and find most photos have a few rating (several and likely random 3/3) and NO comments. I try to go through and comment on as many as I can that do not have comments, but to be fair, I can only comment from limited knowledge.

IMO, the only photos that really garner "Comments" on the "Critique" forum are those Exceptional or Outstanding photos, hence the name should be changed to the Comment Forum.

Truly we, people who are attempting to learn are disadvantaged here. You post your photo and hope that someone take the time to consider you work and leave a worthwhile comment before 25 people post their 4 shots and you are bounced of the page.

What is needed here is a separate forum for those of us seeking advise, which is the baseline of this site. I think the critique forum has lost its focus....

OK I am going back to bed, I just needed to vent.
