  1. This all boils own to: what does the author consider a good shot? If he is looking for a slide to sell to a nature magazine, i.e. "Nature's Best" then I'd say he is doing great considering its wildlife. In my case, since I don't shoot wildlife, if I get one good frame in every five rolls I'd be doing great. Enjoy.

  2. Bob....only ONE POUND????. If you do finally locate such a tripod please post all info on this site. I don't have access to many makes of tripods were I live. I purchased a Cullman Magic2 through the mail (3 lbs w/small ball head/quick release...4.5 ft high with center post full extended). It is well made and my main reason for selecting same was its ingenious design making it easy to carry being only 17" x 5 1/2" fully collapsed. I bought same for my walks around the city and its parks. Nevertheless, I mostly use its one leg and ballhead which convert into a sturdy monopod. After using my Gitzo 320 and Bogen 3047 head its hard to trust this or,I imagine, any light weight tripod. But as you say..."its better than nothing". Remember, let us know if you find what you'r looking for.
  3. A couple of months ago I ran into "Natures Best" for the first time at an airport newstand. I've subscribed to many photo magazines but, in my opinion this was the BEST nature magazine so far. I subscribed immediately.

Last week I received their spring issue. I can only say WOW...its fantastic. I'm motivated and receive much pleasure from looking at quality photos. This magazine gives me that.

As to technical info. I agree most technical information is of little real value. Nevertheless, although my present knowledge of photography tells me that giving me info as to equipment used has no real value, when my own camera and lens are shown as the equipment used my ego gets a boost and the reafirmation that its not the equipment, it's the photographer.

  4. I have most of the books mentioned previously but one of my favorites is "Principles of COMPOSITION in Photography" by Andreas Feininger published by Amphoto. Mr Feininger was for many years considered the daddy of the photography teachers having published many books relating to photography. The book was published in 1973 so you will have to buy a used one. Try amazon.com.
