Although with photography you'll need a keen and creative eye too.

Hi Nancy, the att. above was not posed, it's just a candid shot of my dog in his natural stance when out on the beach, the same ( or better from a better photographer) can be achieved by just being out with the dog and taking enough shots with a zoom lens.

 

The candid method may be more efficient time wise than than trying to get the pose right, and be less frustrating and more enjoyable for both of you.

 

My personal taste is to see animals in as natural a pose as possible, although breeders are usually after something completely different.

I know it's not perfect, but if you spend time getting the dog posed, it will be better.

Peronally, I would buy a DSLR from a local retailer that will repair/replace if any faults develope within warrenty.

 

If you buy from ebay and a fault developes or is already there, then you will have another expence.

I bought my D40 + two kit lenses for only 60 pounds more than it cost on ebay, and I paid for extra 3 yr warrenty ( inc accidental damage) as I'm unlucky with expensive electrical goods ( aleady had a new keyboard and hard disc on my 18month old Toshiba laptop under ins warrenty)

 

Also the ebay items are mostly grey import ( even from UK sellers) and Nikon UK will not carry out warrenty repairs, so you would have to send it back to country of origin.

Seriously, the font is hard to read, especially as an email address, pick something that can be read instantly by people who need glasses but aren't wearing them.

Hi Jennifer, I looked at D40 kits on ebay for a couple of months before I bought mine, and found that ( after contacting various sellers) the kits on there are pretty much all grey market, and therefore have no warrenty in your home country ( unless you live in Japan or Hong Kong)

 

They also did not have the mains charger included, only a cheap car charger.

I eventually purchased one from a local store at about $120 extra, but I have the peace of mind that should there be a problem with it I can take it back to them and they will repair or repalce it ( I also paid extra for a " fully comprehensive " extra 3 year warrenty that covers accidental damage, as I'm unlucky with electrical goods and pc's)

 

Stick with the nikon glass, and If you get the 18-55mm and a 55-200mm lenses you probably won't need anything else ( unless your parrots are a long way away)

Hi, I think it may depend on what you are taking pictures of, if you do still life or the odd landscape, then a p/s will do as they come with 6/7mp now.

 

If you do moving stuff then an slr would be better, I've got a D40, but find it lacking sometimes as most of my pics are of moving animals and 2.5 fps just isn't fast enough, and the A/F lets me down about 50% of the time.

 

If you can afford it get a D80/D200 or equivalent.

Excuse my ignorance, ( and I may get roasted for saying this) but why not get a 18-200 zoom, sorted for most situations!

Don't foget your tripod!

 

If you buy a D80 ( good choice, I didn't have the budget) you have in your hand a very advanced piece of modern photogrphic equiptment, with about 150 years of technical knowhow built in, WHY the hell would you want to turn it off?

 

You'll have enough to think about at the wedding without focus/apeture/shutter speed etc. etc.

I have a Nikon F601 ( N6006) and a new D40, and they both do the same thing, it is VERY frustrating when shooting moving targets, as I quite often miss THE shot, and also the AF system on both cameras seems to "miss" about 50% of the time.

I tried to reply 3 times but web site won't accept it, not writing it ou t again, I give up
