Hello Everyone, thank you very much for taking the time to provide me with your thoughts
on the matter, I really appreciate it. I respect all your opinions and I will use them as
guides to this venture. Thinking about it now, I might have prematurely jumped on the
notion that it's all about passion, dedication and follow through, a fool-proof plan is
definitely in order, I will revisit mine and fill in the holes.
Interestingly enough, my wife just got a contract in Macao, China so we will be moving
there next year. I think I will need to put this decision to be a working photographer in
low gear for now.
Thank you again for all the suggestions and ideas.
I shoot with a Nikon D200 for now and I do have some pictures on Flickr. I just created an
account there so I am still uploading images, but please feel free to give me some advice
on my images when you see a convenient time.
Thank you again,
Paolo

Hello all, I was wondering is someone can give me some advice. In the last 3-4 years, I have been taking
photos and developing my skills with the digital camera, but most importantly, my ability to see things
through a lens and capture beauty, moments, concepts, intrigue and power. Through out this time, I have
been hired a few times for assignments, mostly for head shots and dance photos. I believe that have
develop some confidence in my photographs, hence, I have made the decision to follow a possible career
in this field. I would like to start up a website, I have a few photos that are in consideration to be
displayed in the portfolio section and I have the website construction under control, my worry now is,
what do I write as my bio or "about me" page since I am so green at this business and in the field itself. I
obviously want to have anyone who sees my bio to have confidence in me, but with little experience, what
do I write? I do not want to make things up or exaggerate who I am, but at the same time, have the ability
to solicit and confirm assignments.
Also, is it to my disadvantage to have a website that offers a wide variety of photographic options? Or
should I focus on a genre like fine art or conceptual? Most of my family members encourage to be wide
reaching so that I can cater to a lot of needs and get the jobs, although, I feel that this make sense, it
does not sit well with me to spread myself thinly. I do want the jobs and generate income to support
myself and my wife and progress into this art/field, but I am so new to this that I just don't know how to
get my head space correctly to start in this business.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts on this and for taking the time.

Hello Lee,
Thank you very much for your message. Your advice is very clear and makes absolute sense!
It sounds like a sure way to secure photographic jobs.
Thank you so much.

Thank you Nick.

Hello again Nick, by the way, what would you recommend as the print size for a portfolio - "8X10"? Or can I have different sizes?
Thank you,
Paolo

Hello Nick, thank you for your thoughts on my question - it makes a lot of sense.

Hello everyone out there,
I have just started doing some photographic work very recently and I do not
have a printed portfolio, but I do have a digital one. I carry my laptop with
me on interviews and show clients or possible employers my work on the screen
as supposed to flipping through an actual portfolio. These days, is it still
the standard/required way of presenting yourself as a professional by having a
printed portfolio or is it professionally acceptable to bring along laptops?
Thank you,
Paolo

Hello All,
-WJ Lee: Thanks for the advice about adding noise, yes, I do add noise myself to mask
artifacts and what not and give it a more artsy feel, however, this is for a commercial store
front window so it needs to be quite crisp. Although, like what you said, proper application
of the noise should not become distracting - thanks again.
-Ellis Vener: Thank you for the advice on that printer, I will give a call around.
-Shun Cheung: You are right about the viewing distance - do you think that the D70s' 6MP
can still achieve a commercially viable print at that size poster? Thanks.
-Neal Currie: "Single step upsizing", do you mean just simply setting the document size to
the final print output? I have always heard (read, really) that multi-step produces better
results (Like Mark Soares' reply - 10% upsize intervals using bicubic smoother). Would you
mind sending me a link to the upsizing samples that you looked at? Thank you so much.
Thank you all.

Good day to you Elliot and Mark,
Thank you for the quick replies and thank you for the advice. Your responses has definitely
taken some edge off large size printing intimidation. I will work on using the 10% interval
bicubic smoother option in PS and at the same time search for a lab that can convert my files.
Thank you so much again.

Hello,
I recently got hired for a photoshoot and the final output will be print sizes of 22"x28" and 36"x48". I was
also told that there is a possibility of requesting to print an 8 foot poster. The problem is, I only have a
D70s (6mp) and there are no camera rental places where I live.
Is there a way to still use my D70s and resize the image in photoshop? I know about the "staircase step"
where the image is enlarged by 5-10% in steps, but can a RAW 6MP image be scaled up to 8 feet at a rez
that is commercially acceptable?
Unfortunately I do not have access to a medium or large format cameras, nor can I buy one as I am just
starting out my adventures in commercial photography. I know that the D70s is not a professional camera
and I would love to upgrade, but I need the jobs first to save some money so that I can move up to a pro
cam.
I definitely need some help and advice.
Thank you very much. Paolo

I also just realized that there are several lenses of this kind. There is the Nikkor 70-210mm
lens AF Nikkor f4-5.6 auto focus MACRO and also the ZOOM. I am sorry to be ignorant, but
can someone explain the difference between the two? I looke dfor answers on the net but I
can't find one that I gives a clear distinction between them. Also, has anyone seen lens
sharpness between the New D version versus the older Non D? Or is the difference between
the two , strictly the focusing speed? Thank you,
Paolo
-
Thank you all for the responses. I did hear a lot on the sharpness issue on this lens and at
the same time, I have heard and read people saying that it is pretty sharp, but with almost an
even number on people saying that it is and it is not sharp - I am wondering if i should risk
buying one and hope that I get a sharp one - or is that an inaccurate assumption/point of
view?

Good day, does anyone out there have expereince with this lens? How would you rate it and what is the
critique on this lens?

I really appreciate all of your replies and I will use all of your opinions to help guide my
decision when the time comes to make lens purchases. Thank you,

Good day all,
I am still a greenhorn in the world of photography and I would love to get better at it. I have a D70s and I
would like to expand the number of lenses that I have. I love the Nikkors but they are very expensive. I
am sure this question has been posted before, but can someone please shed some light as to which
alternative brand I should go with - Tamron, Sigma or Tokina? I am sure they all have their strengths and
weaknesses, but which one is the most reliable, best optic (sharpness quality and contrast), best price,
best construction and best lifespan.
Thank you very much.

Hello, one more thing, Will the PK-13 27.5mm tube mount safely on the D70s without
damaging or causing stress to the aperture lever on the camera body. Is the PK-13's mount
like an AI or AIS? I see that Oskar Ojala mentions that this tube will work with the 55mm
macro and that it will got o lifesize. Thank you again.

Thank you all for the responses, they were all very informative. Thank you so much.

Hello,
I am new to photography and I have a project tha I am working on using the D70s. I am creating a stop
motion animation sequence and I am using the Nikkor 55mm f3.5 Ai manual focus lens for this. Would
anybody know what extension tube to use to achieve a 1:1 ratio? The lens is manual focusing and it will
not meter on the D70s so I am not concerned about any CPU contact issues on the tubes, although
someone had told me that the Kenko Uniplus 25mm is a good idea if I wanted to someday use an AF lens,
Is this true and will I achieve 1:1 ration, say, using an AF 50mm f1.4 lens? Also, will the Kenko work with
the Nikkor 55m f3.5 manual focus Ai lens? Thank you . Paolo
