1.
I apologize if this is in the wrong category....I wasn't sure where else I should post it.
I am planning on doing a small benefit craft fair in my local area. This will be my first craft fair. I was wondering what size prints/how many might be good to take? I know that some people come to craft shows just to look for photographs but what sizes do they usually like? Should I do them all in color? Or some in black and white, sepia, etc?
Any other tips or ideas is greatly appreciated.

  2. "If someone build your house and only did it half right would you pay him? I would think not but then again maybe it's just me."

Actually, he would have to redo it and you would STILL have to pay. You don't get a free house just because there was a mistake. And I don't think the clinets should get a full refund either.

  3. "Shooting on the cheap or shooting expensive would both imply a level of professionalism that you don't have and have yet to earn. "

Why? You don't know this person and clearly the OP did not just start shooting last week.

The first deffinition for professional is:

'following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain'

which basicaly means if you get paid for it you are a profesional.

I might be a good idea for the OP to do one or two free, but after that I say go for it! Do like David said and get a website and all the other good stuff. Best wishes!

  4. I dont know if I'm too late but her is my answer.

My co-photographer and I photographed a country singers wedding earlier this year. The singer's publisher got our photos and they picked out some to print in Country Weekly. They were specifally told what names to use for credits. However, they did not credit properly. We were on a very tight deadline or we would have had time to get it in writing that they would credit properly. So if you haven't already been puclished and you have time, try to get it in writing.

  5. Hello!! I dropped my camera about 2 feet from the floor onto hardwood flooring.

It worked fine for the rest of the time, but today I tried to use it and the

lens is broken. I can see what's broken but I'm not sure how to word it, or if

it's the right name. The pieces that make up the aperture hole are broken. The

are loose in the lens. Can that part be fixed? As long as they don't get in the

way of focusing it works...except it won't zoom in. I am prepared to get a new

lens, but if it can be fixed I would rather do that. It's a Nikkor lens 18-135

mm. It's the one that came in the kit. Thanks!

  6. This sort of happened to me this past weekend. I photographed a wedding and I noticed an older man (in his 60's) arranging poses etc. He had what looked to be a Nikon D200 and a flash on a bracket. An example of one thing was I had just finished photographing the rings in the boquet and looked over and he had already posed their hands on it! I was so mad!!!! They barely had time to put their rings back on. I don't know who he was but I'm going to ask the bride. How can this happen if we have a contract? I'm not implying that he was paid, I just don't see how someone can have the nerve to do that. I'm working really hard to make sure I get all the shots I'm supposed to and then I see that. What do the rest of you do when things like this happen?
  7. This might be an odd question,a nd i tmight be in the wrong category, so if it

    is I appologize.

I was going over the photos I took yesterday and wanted to convert some to

black and white. I know there are several ways to do this. I have done it

before and know I can't seem to get them they way I want.

I wanted to see if there was "correct" way to get a true "black and white"

photo? Or is it all just opinion what looks right? There are several ways I

know of in CS3 like channel mixer, greyscale, desaturate, black and white

(from a drop down menu). I can't tell much of a difference. Is there one? I

want my black and white photos to pop! Thnaks everyone!

  8. German,

Protestant(Baptist, Methodist and/or Presbyterian) service's can vary, depending on each persons wishes. For example, there can be any combination of a prayer bench, unity candle, communion, special music, special vows and many other things. They last anywhere from 15 minutes to possibly over an hour. They can be outside in a park or in the mounatins, as well as in the church, court house, or even at/in someone's home. The attire can also vary, unlike a Cahtolic service. Also the way the Bride enters. She can enter on a horse, in a carriage or many other ways.

Catholic services last an hour, and that's it. Nothing under or over. In a Catholic service everyone is invited to join in communion (which can take a while). It seems to me that a Catholic service does not encourage self expression during any part. Protestant (Baptist, Methodist and/or Presbyterian) services are less laid back. A Catholic Bride would not come to the ceremony on a horse, etc.

I hope that helps. (To everyone else: I also hope that I have not given any wrong information and if i did, I am sorry.) if you need any more help please don't hesitate to ask.

  9. I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place, and I appoligize if it

has been answered before....I didn't see it anywhere.

I just downloaded the 30 day free trial of CS3 to see if I like it. It's

costly so I wanted to check it out first.

I was going to see how well it does when making album pages for the popular,

modern day wedding album/coffee table style book.

    For example:

The background photo will be blurred then there will be some smaller ones on

    top.

    Another example:

One large picture, not blurred kind of offset, then smaller ones to either

side, the background of the smaller ones, where there is negeative space would

    be black or another color.

I can't seem to figure it out. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  10. Well here in Charlotte, it is considered the Bible belt. There are many churches around...mainly Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian. Whever you go you will always find work. We aren't far from the beach, so you could still have a good chance of getting beach weddings booked (alot of people here go to the beach just for pictures). Best of luck where ever you choose to go.
  11. Hello! I am need some help trouble shooting.

    About the church:

Single isle, high stained glass windows on both sides, darker choir loft,

large stained glass window in balcony (oppisite choir loft, this lets in a lot

of light towards the back of the church), red carpet, dark wood, light walls

    Problem: (practice shots)

I went into the balcony to take some test pictures. The choir loft was dark

and the rest was light. The couple was dark. I zoomed in 180mm and it was

almost pitch black. You could barely tell there were people there. I tried

many setting but couldnt get it right.

I took another from the choir loft angles at the couple, zoomed out. You

couldnt make out the colors of the windows.

I want to place the bride in front of a window for a great shot, but now i;m

    afarid it won't work.

What am I doing wrong? I usually dont have this problem. I'm using an SB-400

    and Nikon D80.

If someone can help with posting pictures I can do that.

  12. Hello!! I have been looking for some ideas for inexpensive, good quality,

photobooks that have leather covers. Coffee table, magazine styles are what I

am looking for. I know there are a ton of sites out there. Lulu, mypublisher,

blurb, etc... It has to be inexpensive and good quality.

I have looked at mypublisher.com and blurb.com, but would love other ideas.

Asuka books are too expensive for what I need.

    Thanks everyone!

  13. Hello everyone!! I am shooting a wedding next weekend and wondered if you

could send your rainy day wedding tips my way??

The church has a nice covered walkway with arches and I could use that if it

rains. Please give me ANY ideas....no matter how silly you think they may be.

I'd love to see pictures too. Thanks in advance!

  14. Hey everyone!!! I know there are some great photographers here who have great

    pose ideas.

I am doing a wedding later this month and there are 4 siblings....one being

    the bride.

I am looking for creative, unique ideas for posing them. I am looking for

outdoor and indoor ideas. Thanks so much everyone!!

(Would love to see picture ideas)

  15. Thanks everyone for your input. I do have a tripod, I'm just not a fan of them and was thinking of getting a monopod....easier to use.

I do not have a camera rental store that is near me, and if i did, I would be afraid to use a camera that I am not familiar with. I know i could rent it ahead of time, but to me that is wasting money when I have a great camera.

The bride said she wanted to be flashed coming down the isle, but during the other parts she said no. I will keep working with it and see what I can come up with. Thanks everyone!
