I should be far enough away that 85mm should be able to catch the full plume, most of the show is usually staged in one area. Thanks for the advice. :)

Is it a good idea to use the long shutter niose reduction? I have never used it.

Ok, so I left town without checking my camera bag. The only lens I have with me
is my 85mm 1.8 usm. I should yield pretty descent results with this lens on a
tripod, right? I really wanted to use my 24mm 1.4 L. This will be the first
time shooting the 4th with my 20d. What do you all suggest.

I rented this lens for the week end, I brought it to the zoo, and shot with it
around the house. It is mounted on my 20d. Here is one of my favorite shots of
the day.

Has anyone shot with this lens much? The posted reviews to me are to generic, I
would like to hear, from some people who shoot wildlife photography, as their
favorite subjects. Thanks in advance..

Thank you all for the advice. I will try most of these lens out soon at the photo shop. I think I will side with a prime lens like the 28mm maybe wider, I just don't really like using wide zooms. Thank you all again.. Casey

I am looking for a sub thousand dollar lens that is wide enough for family
portraits and still produces that creamy bokeh effect on my 20D. I recently
purchased the 85mm f/1.4 which is great for portraits but is too long for
family shots. I have been looking at a 50mm f/1.4 but i am afraid that it is
too long on a 20d also. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...

Thank you all for your comments, I wish I could emphasize how informal this wedding is and small. I have ahd a chance to take some test shots with my camera and my weak little lens, I really believe that it will do quite nicely, yeah a fast prime would be great, but it wasn't exactly a even trade for for the 20d for my evolt ;P I have always had the knack for posing and composition and i'm kinda crazy to, so I am just going to have fun with it. And just leave the heavy stuff for the hired hand. lol

I just traded my E-500 for a 20d. I am following my mentor as a second shooter
for a wedding scheduled next week. I have purchased a Tamron 18-200mm 1:3.5-6.3
lens to take with me. I have learned quite a bit about this camera already, but
sure could use some good pointers as far as this specific camera goes. Most
shots will be indoors, shady incandecent lighting, and wood ceilings of all
things. Flash is not allowed during the ceremony but I will have my 430ex with
me. My mentor photographer, always has and always will shoot film, so when it
comes to digital she is not a whole lot of help. Anywords of wisdom or shooting
tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..

sorry, this did not post as I had expected it to. Leave it to photo.net not to have a undo button, :)

I snapped several test shots of my wife shooting b&w, I like them but I would
like to see what a pro's eye has to allow. Thanks in advance..

I have been looking at some minature softboxes for my flash. Which one do
you "Pro's" recommend. I want the portabliity when shooting formals, I tend to
move around the location looking for creative shots. I have been looking at the
photoflex lightdome xs. What would you prefer?

Do you think that my 14-45mm 4/3'rds lens is to wide for a walk around lens? My
only other lens available at the time is a 50-150mm. I want to use this lens
during the reception, and post-ceremeony. Is this a good idea or should I stay
back and use teh zoom? Thanks in advance..

Thanks, for you comments, I think I will use my flash most of the time. I do use a bracket with my Fl-50 flash along with a Photoflex lightdome xs to diffuse. I will be shooting the ceremony and the formals, show I will have to take the ceremony pictures without a flash. you was right about TIFF, you can change WB effeciently, Raw is my usual record mode. I am just going to have to deal with the noise of higher iso's, but I will use a tripod(s).

I am getting ready to shoot my fathers wedding comming up in may. It is very
informal, -his 3rd wedding- I have shot a couple weddings and formals before.
But I have really not shot many without a flash. Is the best results achieved
by using a tripod, it seems to be more of a hinderance than a help, but I
really need to stabilize shots. I would prefer to use low iso's, I am using a
Olympus E-500 with two kit lenses 14-45mm & 50-150mm, what would you recommend?
Is no flash really better? My light condtions are descent plus I shoot in Tiff,
so I can make Wb changed easily in PS. Thanks
