Here are some examples of results with Nikon 600 5.6 using Konica-Minolta 7D (I know, you purists are probably grating your teeth); I'll be posting some photos of other species at as soon as I have time:

In May 2007, I purchased NEW from B&H Photo (they still have USA version, new) for use with Nikon D70 and via an adapter Konica-Minolta 7D (image stability in camera). It works FANTASTICALLY with both but must have a tripod or beanbag for the D70. I can, and have, handheld MANY shots of birds and sea otters (on water, or perched) with the K-M and many of these are "tack" sharp, according to ASA 100 slide film standards which I had become used to getting... Although a little difficult with rapidly foraging birds, it is still a good lens and great price (I paid 2500 US$ for the "import", which is virtually the same and has the same short Nikon warranty as the USA model, but save money for other things, like the 14b teleconverter). I highly recommend this lens with digital cameras! Also, I have NO financial interest in either Nikon or B&H Photo, other than having spent money on both for products - Jim Greaves

While not the lenses you ask about, I used Tamron 500 mirror for top half of below linked page. The out of focus parts in upper photos, when compared to lower photos, are obviously a bit annoying, though I DO like the sharpness of the Tamron lens, and it is one to consider as well. It's lighter weight AND focuses to a little over 5 (FIVE) feet, which I have found extremely useful for lizards and flowers. The other lens, not made anymore, has been a great one as well, and focuses to a little over 4 (FOUR) feet:
