Rules? When I was a child they handed me a coloring book and told me to color within the lines to make it look right (rules). When they gave me a camera I was told to stay within the guidelines of composition (more rules). Why do I shoot anyway? To please you or me. Photography for me is for expression. I have adhered to the rules for so long my work is boring. I am just now taking the chance to color outside the lines and it feels great. Sometimes being slightly off balance isn't a bad thing it's just different. What if Picasso, for example, had followed the rules? Would we even know his work? He just established new rules to suit HIS vision and we adapted to it.
New rules a always being made and old ones put aside. Follow your own path of expression.
