1.
I have been a proud Member of photo.net since 3rd April 2007 and have never thought the day would come where I would reach a stage in my newfound happy capture days to be "Not so happy"
Let me explain myself: Three weeks after our return from Turkey my husband and myself went to the Kruger National Park for a 5 day trip. Whilst there we received a call from our housekeeper informing us of very bad weather back at home so much so that it kept on triping all the power. Ok, it started the worry in me since we are both photographers and you can all guess where I am heading.
"Back-Up's" When last did anyone do a back-up on their computor before they went on a weekend away or a trip abroad to make sure they do not loose all their photos taken over the years.?
Ok, I did my own back-up of all my photos in the different files but...............my "International Trips" file was not done due to the fact that it was so big I thought of doing it later and later never came. We returned from our Kruger Experience to find that our home had a "Direct Hit" by Lightning and to put the cherry on the cake our PC had a strong spike and burnt it. Ok, lots of tears and worry from my side so much so that I did not even want to work on photos taken in the park till now.Our local supplier and friend who deals in computors tried his best to see if our data could be retrieved only to let us know he cannot help. He then tried a Company in Johannesburg to see if they could help.
Needless, to say how many nights had passed with me not sleeping at all or sleeping just a little bit.
Ok, now after 7 weeks of worry & tears & frustration we finally , thanks to the company in johannesburg have a full back-up of all our photos they had retrieved since the 1980's.
I know it sounds crazy but photos kept on computors is fantastic but, if you do not I repeat Do Not Do Back-Up's you can be in serious trouble if the strike by Lightning or electrical was more fierce.
That's my story
Thank you
Warmest Regards
2.
Hi Doug, a very Warm Welcome to South Africa,
Enjoy your stay in Cape Town and take lots of photos. Strange you will be in KrugerPark maybe the same time as us. We were there from the 16th till today the 22nd. We had just returned home after a long drive since 08:30 am and the time we arrived was 16:15pm.........Phew, what a drive! It would have been great if there was some wild life all along the road but unfortunately the only wild we saw was vehicles driving past as if they were chased by some or the other wild animal or maybe just being chased by a white rhino full stop! heehee
It has been very hot in the Kruger Park since there has been no rains at all. We travelled through the park from Crocodile Bridge entry right up to Punda Maria and visited the area called "Crooks Corner" where the Limpopo river flows-Not even a drop of water in the river-Phew, our continent is in Big Trouble due to Global Warming !
Anyway, enough said.....Enjoy your rest of your journey and may it only be part of many great Memories.
Warmest Regards
3.
Hello there Doug,
Ok I read what GJ & Brad said.
Cape Town- The Hotel where you will be staying is an Excellent choice.
Car Rental in SA - Very Cheap if you convert from Dollars/Pounds or Euros
Places you must see - SimonsTown/False Bay/The Cape Point/All along the Point to Camps Bay/Table Mountain-----Camps Bay ---Fantastic Sunset Photos--
Wait I cannot recall how much time you said you will be spending in Cape Town-So much to see if you have a two week vacation then I can really talk and Guide you as to which routes to take where not every touring company normally will take you-Let me know then I can carry on with my talking or advising-?
If you have a camera that can take fantastic Panorama photos-Then taking a photo of Table Mountain from across the bay in Blouberg Strand is just the place from the beach-That is if it is a clear day-
Another trip to take is: Look on your Cape Town & along the coast up NorthMap-Take a trip all along the coast to Mikonos-You will find a real little Gem of a village on the coast called Yzerfontein -Fantastic place to go and retire for the rest of your life-Peacefull & Quiet-
If you are a daily backpacker who is thinking of attempting to climb the Mountain I suggest be very cautious since our Mountain is Dangerous due our our cimate changes one minute to the next.
Safety - Unfortunately I have to WARN you that South Africa has since 1994 had an influx of unsavoury illegal immigrants come into our country who have caused the South Africans and tourists a lot of headaches and tears-Do not trust just anyone-Speak to the Hotel Manager and ask them for assistence and guidance as far as where you can go or not. Always keep your doors of your vehicle locked whilst driving and your windows of vehicles just an inch open. There are dangers lurking but you just have to get the pointers of what to look out for-
We have a beautiful country which you will not Regret visiting not because I am a citizen of this country but because I who live here have made a point of getting to know my country properly-
One Trip you have to do since you are going to visit our country-You have to make time for a visit to our Kruger National Park- Again, I can even advice anyoone on that pointer as well-
Please let me know if you are also thinking of staying in Johannesburg then I would gladly advice you of areas where to stay and where to stay away-
Would be waiting for your Response-
Warmest Regards
Johanna from SA

 4.
Hallo Rowena,
We visited all 3 the cities mentioned last year and all I can say is that the people all over Vietnam are fantastic and very friendly. We had no incidents whatsoever and yet we were also "Warned" If you have travelled before then you would just be as cautious as anywhere else in the world. leo Laksi mentioned that Crime exists everywhere in the world and he is so right. My husband and myself travelled to Vietnam & Cambodia doing a "Kill 2 birds with one stone" scenario and we came back with only great memories of how fantastic the people are in both countries. I off-course live in South Africa which is at present rated the 2nd (SECOND) Highest Crime Ridden country in the World and maybe due to this I cannot relax wherever I go on holiday-always clutching my handbag out of sheer habit or maybe we are just constantly aware-You are certainly going to enjoy your Trip and return home with a lot of beautiful memories-Enjoy-Warmest Regards-Johanna
