Thanks everyone for all of your kind and constructive comments. I appreciate all of the feedback. I recieved many comments about post processing. Here is a quick overview of what I did. I shoot with a Canon 10D in RAW format. The image is a composite of 3 bracketed images (1 stop up and down). After combining the images, most of my effort was toward enhancing the contrast (which also enhanced the saturation). I also worked on enhancing the contrast between the tufa and the background hills. I would agree that the tufa pops out a little too much and I intend to tone down the lightening there. Lastly, I sharpened. Please email me if anyone is interested in more detail. I intend to continue working on improving this image. That sunset was truely special. I was very lucky to be there. Thanks again for all your comments.

Just came back from Mammoth Lakes, CA. We had clouds on Sunday and

then nothing until Thursday night. It was really blowing out there,

so we almost decided not to turn off of Highway 395. Good thing we

did. It was an amazing site. Funny thing was that there was only

one other photographer out there. We just kept on shaking our heads

with disbelief at the beauty of the moment. Lots of fun...

Went grocery shopping with my wife. While she looked for stuff to

eat, I looked for stuff to shoot. Funny how that works... All

    comments and ratings greatly appreciated.

Also as a challenge, I am having a very difficult time printing this

on an Epson 2200 with Enhanced Matte paper. The gamut clips the

reds and the right pepper gets washed out. Let me know if you have

better luck. I would be very interested in your results.
