  1. The reason I cropped where I did was above the area that you see it was very bright ( sky & cliffs walls), so much so that I felt it would dominate and take away from the main part of the scene you see here. Thanks from the comments Larry.
  2. I agree with you about darker images and their acceptance and I also agree that this is one fine image. My personal opinion is that it doesn't need to be changed in any way. When you processed it, I'm sure you had a "feeling" that you were trying to convey, "first light", and I think you have conveyed it very well. My attention is drawn toward the lighter area with shadow details intact and not in anyway distracting.
  3. I am always taken by the beauty of these stands and just as perplexed in how to express my visual feelings about what I see. I'm not always successful and even when I am, it seems that others do not feel the same. Anyway, Stephen, these are pure visual delights.
  4. This was taken in May of 2011, which was a very wet year. As I mentioned above, the lighter region is not without tones, they're just on the high end. In this rendition, I was going for the "misty" look, which was how it was at the time, and too much darkening in the distant, would look unnatural, to me. Thanks for taking the time to comment, Dave, I always appreciate the feed back.
  5. It always a pleasure to hear from you, the little umbrella sounds like a good idea. as long as you're not too close to the waterfall. As you know, when your close, the mist comes at you from all directions. It kind of bounces upward from the surface of the water after falling. Thanks for taking the time Alf, I do appreciate it.
  6. I have processed this image a few times and in this attempt, I wanted a full range "print" but leaning more to maintaining the misty atmosphere that almost always exists at the near base of waterfalls. In the region that you mention, it is not a blank white but one with very high tones. I feel that darkening this area would look unnatural with all the surrounding high values. Maybe a very little might work, anyway, great observation and thanks for taking the time to comment.
