<p>Thanks Shun, Ben, they are raw files. I also tried screwing a 500D on the 28-300 and it makes for a decent macro, nice workable length and pretty sharp. The sample is in the set, a shot of a 70-200 lens . I will try sticking a tube in the mix also. Thanks</p>

<p>I like this new lens as a walkaround just like the 18-200 on my d200 & d300.<br>
It has it limits but we all found out the 18-200 did as well. I am not a<br>
"lens tester" just some samples. <a href="http://www.jerryballardphotography.com">http://www.jerryballardphotography.com</a></p>

<p>I have a PC-NIKKOR 35mm 1:2.8 also and it is a great lens. If you have this lens and the serial # is 851001 - 906200 don't put it on your d3. Also don't put the old type PC 35 f3.5 on the d3. The PC 28 f4 ser# 180900 or earlier not compatible also. This is according to Nikon in the d3 manual page 380. On my pc 35 it is very smooth and stays in place when rotated but is a tad loose. I don't know if there is any adjustment on this lens. I have read that a heavy lube, just a drop will do the trick, have not tried that yet. I have also read that this lens is great at pano's as it rotates 360 and can screwed out 11 degrees in both directions with out moving the lens. Have not tried that yet as I just got the lens.</p>

Thanks for the info. I have a chance to buy 1 with the 2 TC's for $1500.
I am not very good with manual focus on fast moving things so the
keepers would be alot less. Tempting

I can't find anything on the value of this lens. Does anyone
know what a 500 with hood and metal case and a 1.4
and 2.0 nikon teleconvertors would be worth? The glass
is perfect and no dust or oil or mold. Very clean all round.
Thanks

Aleksandar,
Not to change the subject but on your picture (sky love), is that backgound a photoshop effect of your on or something like graphic authority? I like the look. great pics!

I think the 18-200 is the perfect vacation, zoo, anytime lens where you don't want to lug around all the 1.4 and 2.8 stuff and mess with changing all the time. I even like the out of focus area at the long end. http://www.jerryballard.com/birds2.html

Sell the 200 and 2h and 2x and get a d3. A d300 and a d3, who could ask for anything more?
-
Marcus, that is a whale of a shot! Really!
-
Bruce,
Thanks for the info. I am going to see if I can make room for both.
The 300 is one of my favorites and works great with the 1.7x
-
Joel, I have never seen one that does 45%. You have more nerve than I do going on a kayak with your camera! Maybe if it was in a waterproof and floating underwater housing. Luck be with you!
-
Not a bad idea Robert! Thanks
-
Thanks Blu, I also plan on taking a 28-70 2.8.
-
Marcus, what camera were you using? Thanks
Joel, I am going to do that trip one of these days! Enjoy
-
Thanks Marcus. Did you get some good shots?

I am going to do some whale watching in somana, dominican rep. soon. They breed
there from jan to mar every year and it is said to be one of the really great
sites for whales. The boats are about 165 feet from the whales, (regulation) so
I was thinking the 70-200 would be good. I would also take the 1.7x if I needed
it. I used that combo here..http://www.jerryballard.com/superbikes.html and got
decent results. The only long lenses I have are a 300 f4 afs and the 70-200.
For full body shots at that distance the 300 seems a bit long? Any whale
watchers advise ? Will be using a d3. Thanks

This looks like a good read:

Ahh, that will be a nice lens to learn.

sigma 300-800 ?
That bird was having a heck of a time. Nice shots.
-
Elliot,
I have had the same results with a converter. Maybe the new cameras work better with converters, I don't know, but I would be keeping that one. Love it when things work! Thanks for the tests.

russ, why would that be?

Nikon Capture NX v1.3.2 Updater
Just a heads up that this is available
-
My 70-200 does the same on my d3 wide open. 5.6 very little and gone by 8. Capture NX will take care of that problem very nicely.

My guess is they wanted to create the photo look of a photo booth. The booth I am thinking of is the kind you see at fairs, malls, etc and isn't much bigger than a phone booth with a bench and curtains on each side. As many people as can cram into the booth get a series of pics that come out after putting in your dollar or ?. Last time I used one the pics were b&w and you got 4 or 5 not much bigger than a 35mm slide. I guess a wide up close and set pic to b&w and not real good quality, maybe jpeg basic, would get you something like those.
I don't remember what the background was, probably just white.

I get the same from my 70-200 but easy to fix.
