Hi William
Thanks for your anwer. I too thought it was unsual, as they don't ask for a membership fee, but a fee to cover financial risk. And I would definitely love to visit the gallery but it's in New York and I'm France...that makes things a bit complicated :)

I come to you for some advice...I have been contacted recently by an art gallery
in New York (in Tribeca to be precise) interested in showing some of my work.
Yes, very exiting news. Now comes the BUT. They're asking me for a fee to
balance off the (financial) risk of showing the works of unknown artists. I've
googled the art gallery, and it seems to be a real and established gallery. But
as I've got no experience in exhibiting work in an art gallery, I can't really
tell whether it is common practice to ask the artists for a fee/contribution or
just a plain scam.
Before I can make any decision, I would like to hear from you if you have any
advice and experience in this matter.
Thank you so much for your help

Yeap...there is definitely some spring cleaning going on...every day I look I have less and less
ratings...looks that some of the low ones are going down the drain too...there's always a
bright side. Thank you for taking the time to post your views and comments on this.

Thanks for taking the time to answer this question. I can see the point that Steve is making,
there is a certain delay in the system when it comes to display the TRP ratings...but what is a
mystery to me is how can we have 23 ratings on Sunday and only 12 two days later...nearly
half of the ratings have been erased...I agree that we shouldn't waste too much time on this,
but it is a bit disconcerting to say the least...

....Last Sunday (17/06), usually the day of the week when I got time to fiddle with my pictures, I posted a
few. I was quite happy to see that they were well received, leaving aside my share of 3/3s commonly
dispensed around here. Surely it is always nice to see that your work is being appreciated by your fellow-
PhotoNauts, it's a real boost and gives you confidence.
But, like all good things in life, that didn't last long...I see today that my ratings have taken a down slope.
Where only yesterday I had on one of my pictures 23 ratings (O: 6.00 A: 6.04), today I am left with 12
ratings (and an honorable O: 5.50 / A: 5.50). The 3/3s remain.
I don't take this personnaly and I am conforted in the fact that I wasn't the only one affected by this. In
Spain, where I can come from we say "pain of many, solace for the dim" (mal de muchos consuelo de
tontos).
Nevertheless I am quite intrigued to find out what happened? Where have all the good ratings gone?
Why did they suddenly disappeared? How come that our ratings are halved one day to the next, while the
stubborned low ones remain, immutable? I am aware that all rating systems have flaws, but just for the
sake of understanding, there must be some logical explanation to this phenomenon?

Thank you for your answers... yep, Gordon I should get going and asking around.
Ton, from your message I guess you paid for the printing and framing? As far as I am concerned, I'll be over the moon just to exhibit my work. I don't pretend to get rich with it, but would want to get ruined either.
The thing is that it would be so much easier if for starters the gallery was in the same country where I live, let alone the same continent!
William, The Gallery is NY and I'm in France.

Brad, I'll check with them the details of it
To all thank you so much for your answers, it's being very helpful.
