I think the surreal colors work well here.
FWIW I prefer it without the frame, but I almost always do.

handheld, no flash.

Lots of em in the Redwall books.
My favorites are the sailor otters

Thanks for the comments. I agree about the angle/framing of the shot---but I didnt' want to be too obnoxious to either the performers or the audience.
This is an annual jazz fest at my son's high school, and Mr. Hankins was my son's middle school band teacher, who was performing with the high school band. We have a phenomenal jazz program here and the musicianship was really excellent.

I like the quality of this but my HP5 always comes out too grainy. What developer are you using?

what developer are you using? It's a luscious result.

this is a great capture. I knew that "technically" people would want to use fill flash on the woman's face. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I think I prefer it this way. There's more emotion in the shadowed face--you don't really see the expression in the eyes--so she could be sad, cynical, compassionate, etc. The mystery makes the picture. GREAT JOB

First try with TMAX 3200. Used a flash. Took some without the
flash and they were way too grainy

Here's another one for the March theme

As others have said, a great picture. I like the B/W feel of it, with just the hint of color.
I like it better in the original form and not the rotated one -- on the rotated one I seem to see the picture form a point on the right hand side. or is it just my eyes.
GREAT shot/great conception

Thanks for the comments. Let me check the scan--it might be that I didn't capture the detail in the negative. But if not, the park isn't too far away, I might go back and shoot again -- this was done in the first month I had the camera and I was still learning about it. it was a windy day and this was the best of a bunch in which the tree limbs were out of focus.

Was driving by this cemetery near sunset on a summer night. the way
the pine trees hung it reminded me of tne old South, even though this
is in Central Illinois.

And why is this in the Pets category? I thought maybe a mouse had died in the bottle.....

I really like this as an art picture, so don't take my next comment the wrong way.
BUT: this would make a really nice billboard, or spread in a magazine -- you've left the right amount of space at the right to put in the words while still giving the right feel to the image. I think photogs either think art or think business and here's a great example of a picture that can be equally effective both ways.

Thanks for the comments re labs. I have one I work with for MF color contact sheets but haven't tried them for large stuff yet. Maybe I'll take a couple over there (BW and Color) and see what they can do.

This is a happy mistake. Taken with my friend's Zeiss Ikonta C on a
sunny afternoon on the back deck. This is what happens when you
forget to set the light meter. The late afternoon sun bounced off
the gourd and filtered through the white pine tree behind it. I like
this but am still trying to figure out just how to crop and print it.

I think the tree and ropes ADD to the impact of the photo. Otherwise it would bother me that the gorilla is viewed from below. But WITH the tree, etc., it becomes a more natural/environmental shot. I would like to see a version in which the eyes are burned in a bit more, but I suspect I would prefer this one as being more emotionally compelling.

I think I like the original green light better -- makes the castle a little eerie.
The only slight quibble I have is that the castle is leaning a bit (or maybe I am -- been a long day) which I find distracting. Nice capture

This is one of those pics that would work much better in person than on the computer -- the thumbnail is too small and the medium is annoying cause I have to scroll down to see it all. It certainly brings out the vertical landscape of the mountains! Nice shot.
