  1. The ceremony is STARTING at 7:30 pm. I live in Seattle, and it will be very dark! So there won't be any natural light, unfortunately. I'm concerned about my flash reflection even if I bounce it off of the white wall. You would still see it on the fish tank backdrop where they will saying their vows.
  2. I am photographing a wedding next month and will be checking out the venue in a

few weeks to test out the lighting.

    Here is a link:

Gnomedex Party at the Seattle Aquarium

I had an instructor suggest bringing my two studio lights with umbrellas and

point them down on the venue from the upper level overlooking the main area. I

just am not sure if they will be okay with people walking by them on the upper

level. I know some people don't watch their kiddos at weddings. The right

hand side is all glass and the left hand side is curvy white walls. I thought

about bouncing off of that wall... The ceilings are not an option for bouncing

light. I am just not 100% convinced that my lights would be safe, or that

bouncing off of the side wall wouldn't produce some flash glare on the tank

behind where the bride and groom will stand. I called and asked the planner

about the studio lights and he said that no one had done it before, but it was

a good idea. He also said that other photographer's photos had turned out

    beautiful (with just flash.)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  3. So I've been reading so much about Alienbees that I'm going cross-eyed! From

what I've read people are dissatisfied with the accessories that come in their

kits...so what have you supplemented for their stuff?

I'm going to purchase two lights for upcoming formals (like prom) and would

like to hear what you would "bling out your bees" with...I'm trying to keep it

around $1,000. Their foldable soft boxes? Yes, no? I'm a natural light

photographer but I would use these again for winter weddings so I want to

invest but can't break the bank...

Also, what light meters do you love?

    Thanks!

  4. What do you charge for additional wedding cd's/dvd's with digital negatives? I

have looked around my area and haven't seen anything posted. A recent wedding

I shot, the groom's mom requested a cd for these. I told her that the bride

was getting the cd but she insisted on paying for one of herself. I guess she

might not know how to download the photos for herself from her son's cd. Long

story short, what is reasonable? I charge $795-$1695 for weddings and cd's are

included in each package as well as my portrait sessions. Should I even charge

for this since it is just a matter of burning an additional cd?

    Thanks!

  5. Hey all...I have a question regarding photoshop. I have been gearing towards

buying CS2 for awhile. There is a great discount at my husband's college with

    his student discount which includes:

    Adobe Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, GoLive CS2, Acrobat 8.0

    Professional, Dreamweaver 8

    for $200

    or...

Photoshop CS3 Extended, Illustrator CS3, InDesign CS3, Acrobat 8.0 Professional

    for $400 next month?

Some of the programs with the CS2 will be discontinued. I am looking for good

programs to aid in photo editing with weddings and portraits. Recently I

purchased Lightroom for workflow. What would you buy and why? What do you

    currently use?

    Thanks for input!

  6. Thank you! Good technical stuff, William...especially with the lens info...my lens library is needing to increase badly. What a good excuse to expand it :)

I will definately keep my eye out for a balcony. I will be checking out the hotel soon and the event is not until July, so I will have lots of time to practice and get prepared. Thanks!

  7. Some good points, made...thanks everyone...and Sarah, your kiddos are pickin' cute! :)

I think being a mom is the greatest education there is in working with other kids. My biggest compliment with clients is how comfortable their kids are with me...it's pretty sweet when you hear that their four year old remembers you by name! Thanks again everyone! It's good to hear feedback from other paparazzi mommas :)

And I think I will try not to be so paranoid with my kids...safe but not fearful.

  8. Hey everyone, thank you so much for all the great responses...and so quick too! I just got a Digital Photo Pro magazine subscription and it had an entire article on Adobe Lightroom...I am definately making that purchase (Thanks, Anne for your recommendation on that one. I read an earlier thread on that) Kevin, I am making the switch because I am wanting a more professional look to my photos that I know is lacking...and it seems like RAW will give me more options with fixing white balance and lighting issues. I've been doing a lot of reading on the pros and cons of RAW vs. JPEG. So, I'm going to give it a shot and try it out this week.

Conrad, I will definately check out Canon DPP and Photomechanic. Have you tried Lightroom and can you compare? Thanks everyone! There is so much to learn, I appreciate the feedback :)

  9. I photographed weddings last summer as a second shooter all in jpeg. I just

cashed in a ton of memory cards at a great sale at Costco with hopes of

transitioning totally to raw. Should I take it slow and just shoot ceremony

shots in raw? I'm a little nervous about the processing part...I don't have

PS yet and have been editing with another program. With the wedding next

weekend should I stick to what I know? Thoughts and opinions much

    appreciated. Thanks :)

  10. Hey I'm a mom, photographer, wife, carpool driver, etc...I have a random

question regarding posting info and pictures about your own children on your

blog. What is your opinion of this? I have a six year old daughter and four

year old son...I want to be personal on my blog but want to protect my

children and family as well. Am I being a paranoid momma?

    thanks:)

  11. Hi everyone! My name is Jenny and I am new here but have been reading posts on

this forum for the past six months...I have just been too shy to join in!

Anyway, I have too many questions to be silent anymore, and the wealth of

knowledge here is amazing...Thank you everyone! My question is regarding a

group photo for a convention of about 400-500 people. I have a Canon 30D and

am prepared to buy a wide angle lens for this event. Any suggestions and input

would be appreciated. Oh, and the prints will be 8x10 and unfortunately the

venue will be indoors at a hotel. But I am working with the coordinator and we

can find a nearby outdoor venue. The event isn't until July but I want to be

fully prepared. Thanks for any tips!
