There's a Picture Styles settings that's probably defining what ends up in the JPG. You might want to try different settings in there. There's definitely one for sharpness.

Hmm I'm wondering, does someone have examples of how a cheap tripod ruined their shot? I have a cheap tripod and it doesn't seem to be *that* bad. I'm a noob though so maybe I just don't see it. Also, this might be a little off-topic since he probably doesn't need a tripod anyway.
My suggestion Bradley, if you have it, take a flash/light source of some sort on a tripod/person to fill in your shadows, you might get some neat shots like the guy in this article...

In fact, I believe the state of New Jersey is suing expresscameras.com (along with all their sketchy alias stores), for their "unconscionable" practices regarding consumer retail.

I've bought from sterlingtek too and so far so good, got an extra battery and charger for very cheap and the charger unexpectedly came with a car adapter. Been using the battery for 6 months now with no problems.

Oh and one more thing, silly but I do silly things like this all the time, any chance what you're interpreting as 1/20 shutter speed is actually 20"?

Looks like there's a fair amount of chromatic aberration, what do you think?

I am interested in this... Want to show us some pix before and after the attachment for comparison?
Thanks!

Hi, so I have the Canon 400D but I imagine the 350D might be similar. The FEL button and shutter (pressed halfway) can be programmed to handle different combinations of exposure and focus lock. It sounds to me that the FEL button is locking the exposure but the shutter is also set to relock exposure. On my camera, the choices are located in Custom Functions somewhere, check in there and play around. I can't find my manual this minute so I can't tell you exactly where unfortunately.

Perhaps you have the custom WB setting skewed? There's a section in the menus that allows you to manually set a white balance offset and/or bracket your WB settings... It's like a little grid with a dot in the middle you can move around.
I imagine if you had it set to something weird, you might get strange results?
