Welcome to the world of photography, Anuj. It is immediately clear that you have the 'eye' for photography, that can only become better with time. The way you have captured the birds speak a lot of your talent. Carry on the good work!!

    Portal Revisited

Not quite 'street' but candid nevertheless. The title of the photo is such as I

felt it had things in common with my recently uploaded photo 'Portal'.

    Thank you for your comments.

You are right. This is a poster from a forthcoming Star Trek film.

Thanks for providing the website link. I'll have a look. Till then, well..... :)

Thanks for your input. I did not know that this was against the local laws; I've been doing this for a while. No one has stopped me and neither have I seen any signs to the effect.

However, I'm interested to know what exactly amuses you about this photo. The situation presented itself in such a away that was hard to ignore. Beyond that, I had no other thought as I took the photo.

Thanks, Donna. I've kind of given up on photography using conventional dslr; I use the phone more often when out and about. This is one such attempt. Glad you liked it. BW.

  1. Here we see a man, who virtually does not have a decent place to stay, taking care of two dogs which look fairly well-fed. They stay in this "camp" and move about as their need takes them, I suppose. Viewing the photo, a question does come to mind...what is his source of sustenance? How is he covered as far as his (and his dogs') healthcare is concerned?

It does bring to the mind a query about man's behaviour in general. Is this an instinct some are blessed with? Or is this man's "counterculture" the key to his survival?

Sorry, no discussion the photo in itself, but developing curiosity in the viewer's mind, I am told, is one of the hallmarks of a successful photograph. :)

    Separate Ways

Thank you for your comment. When I took this photo, this had an appeal to me. I think your interpretation helps a bit. For me, it was the overall atmosphere. Perhaps it was also to do with the triangle formation as you have explained. Regards.

  2. This photograph is about feelings. The boy's gaze is deep, it almost takes us to his mind. I like the way his cheeks are blown up; makes me think that may just be an involuntary action as his mind is already exploring the things he would be doing by the seaside. People sometimes do these things without realising what they are doing, like many who bite their lip while concentrating very hard. The mother's presence is almost supportive, more rooted to reality and the practicalities of what lies in front (the journey) and her expression, though a joyous gaze, contrasts well with the dream-like gaze of her son.

    And yes, wonderful tone throughout.

Was this a one-shot or one among a burst?

  3. Great shot with contrasts.

Contrasts not only in what we se here but also in how we see the photo. Your cropping, which I find very effective here, in cutting off the upper halves of the crowd in the background renders a new meaning to the photo. They are the faceless masses who use the services of the porters whom you have emphasised (hence, with face). However, far flung from the more affluent people who hire their services, they sit and ponder on the stark realities of life that they face. So you see, to me, the contrast in this photo works at several levels.

    A very 'human(e)' document.

On technical merits of this photo, you are the one to write and I to learn.

    Regards.
