1.
Hi all,
I know there are many posts about missing folders in LR3 but they usually have to do with people making the mistake of moving folder/files outside of the LR3 program. My problem is different.
Yesterday I imported some new photos into LR and realized that the subdirectory was in a place I didn't want it. So, I attempted to move the folder in LR by dragging and dropping into the root "Macintosh HD". From there I do not know what I did wrong because I could not find it. I think the only other thing I did was "sychronize folder" when I was having the problem.
Oh, the problem is that I can't see any of my many folder along the left panel. I see Macintosh HD and to the right of that where I usually see the storage statistics there is the word Online. Also, there is a small green rectangle to the left of Macintosh HD. Normally my folder called Photo Library would be just below Macintosh HD and my specific folder would be below that.
Right now I can see them at all! No folders. They exist on my hard drive but I can't see them in LR. I am really not feeling good about this.
Is there a way to go back to a previous "instance" of LR? My last backup was done last night (of my entire hard drive) and this problem happened after that so it seems to me that I should be able to get back to where I was.
I am grateful for any help.
Regards,
Pete R.

  2.
Hi,
I have a nice shot of a model from a seminar that I was at. I would like to use it as an example in my portfolio on my website.
If I email the model asking for her permission is this enough for me to use it?
I will also offer her the photo for her use.
Thanks,
3.
Thanks all for the responses...

So, it seems that several of you use Zenfolio as your "main" site without having a gateway site which points at your Zen site. I would love to be able to do this since it would be the quickest and simplest way to get started. However, I am concerned that this would pose a problem if I ever felt that I wanted to have more control over my site and decided to have Blue Host (my hosting company) host my site directly. If I build up my SEO with Zen it seems like if I switched to a gateway site I would be losing all of that optimization?

Couple of questions:
1. Does Zenfolio and SmugMug offer an easy way to make package pricing or discounts on additional prints ordered?

2. Does anyone see a problem with me hosting a main gateway site which then points at Zen or SmugMug? It seems like my domain name can carry through to Zen but not to SmugMug.

3. Any other comments from anyone switched from Zen to SmugMug or SmugMug to Zen?

4. Any feedback on the prints and fulfillment from Zen vs. SmugMug?

I think I have decided to use either Zen or SmugMug to be my main site. I will just redirect my domain name.

Thanks!

  4.
Hi all,

I am starting a photog business (portraits, sports/events) and I need to get a website up and running as soon as possible.

I was planning on using the Profoto blog by Net Rivets because I was looking for simplicity and a way to really put focus on the photos. I do not want a flash site. Withing my Net Rivets site I will have my portfolio and example galleries. I was going to have my Net Rivets site have a link to a Zenfolio account for event fullfillment. However, I've been looking around and it seems like I could possibly skip the Net Rivets site and just use Zenfolio as my main website. It seems to me that this will be my best option to get a site up and running quickly and also have fullfillment as well.

I'd really appreciate some feedback on this.

Thanks!
5.
Hi all,

I am somewhat confused as to how to handle how I present various products to my clients. With all the new products available there is so much more to offer beyond prints (canvas mounts, pop outs, mugs, etc.)

How does everyone present the various options without showing your cost? I know our clients know there is a markup which is how we make a living, however, it seems like bad business practice to show the costs.
It seems like I would have to make a custom pricelist (printable, PDF format for emailing) so that I am not pointing clients to the actual websites where the products are coming from. I know I can use a fulfillment service such as Zenfolio, however, this is limited to prints and just a few other products. I also want my customers to be able to focus and not get overwhelmed with choices.

I would like to offer the best products from different vendors. I think I am answering my own question as I write this. I think I have some work to do and make a custom pricelist.

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

Thanks,
6.
Hi,
I have done alot of shooting and I have not done much printing and framing as of yet.
I am getting frustrated because I feel I do a good job framing my shots right in the camera. When I go to crop them to fit into an 8X10 frame I can not always get them to look as good. In other words I want them to look exactly like a framed them for the shot.
In the stores I only seem to find 8X10 frames (not 8X12 frames). Why is this? It seems to me that there should be more availabilty of 8X12 frames. I am sure there is a history to this or a good reason.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
7. Hi all,

I have seen some CD courses on Ebay that look very good and the prices are real

cheap. Also, the feedbacks are very positive.

Being a skeptic by nature I have not purchsed any.

Does anyone have any dealings with these, good or bad? If good, which one?

    Thanks,

    Pete R.

  8. Thanks. Yes I am very aware of the razor blade analogy all too well. I already have a Canon Pixma Pro9000 but I wanted to use this as a printer that can be a little more portable and also use it for scanning. I also saw a post that said it could not be used for scanning when even one of the ink wells goes dry. This is why I'd like to know more about the priming "features".

    Thanks again...

  9. Hi all,

I would like to setup a very basic portrait studio in my home. I am probably

going to spend around $600 for a light setup.

My question is will I be able to take and generate high qualitiy studio shots

with a Rebel XTi? Will it be lacking in features that allow it do quality

studio work? Can it control a multi-light setup, etc...?

How much more of a professional look would I get from the 5D? I would like a 5D

eventually but budget is restricted right now.

    Thanks,

    Pete R.

  10. I have a quick question related to using a digital SLR, such as the EOS 5D, for

aerial photos. If you are the pilot of the plane and would also like to snap

the shots (sounds dangerous but it can be done safely) doesn't it become very

inconvenient to use a digital SLR that will not allow you to use the LCD

viewfinder for composing your photos? This is a very basic question from

    someone without the experience? Thanks...
