  1. I didn't really know where to post this question. So thanks in advance for your patience.

My problem is this. For my Canon 30D, I use Adobe Elements 5.0 and save TIFF files in Canon's Zoombrowzer 5.6.

I'm trying to change some TIFF files to JPEG (to make 4X6 prints with Shutterfly -- and they don't accept TIFF) -- and

images are becoming greatly distorted after I export. I've gone through the help button, and can't find any

troubleshooting solutions. I've tried to resize, but still distorted. I've not resized, and still distorted.

Does anyone have a solution? Thanks so much for your help.

  2. Help.

I have a Canon PowerShot S2 IS, and bought a TC-DC58B lens to extend the zoom capabilities. They say it extends

this 12 zoom to 650 mm. (I also have the adapter).

The lens arrived yesterday, I put it on, and I see NO difference. Nothing is closer.I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

    Please advise.

What I did was this --

    Screw off the camera ring.

    Put on the adapter.

    Screw in the lens.

    Turn camera on.

    Change converter setting in menu.

    Zoom.

    No difference.

Thanks in advance for your help

  4. My question is this: does auto focus override focus points?

When I set up, I often push the shutter button half way down. Then, I hit the

focus points and select the one I want.

When I upload photos to the computer, and select "show focus points," sometimes

they're highlighted, and sometimes they're not. Does that mean I'm overriding

    focal points at times?

This often happens too when I'm using a tripod and cable release.

Please help. What am I doing wrong.

    Many thanks in advance.

  5. Can anyone tell me where Highlight Tone Priority is on a Canon 30D? I just read

about this new technology in a photography newsletter, but can't find it. It's

not the highlight alert. Rather, it gives you one more stop of handling high

contrast to keep highlights from washing out in high-contrast situations.

They say newer cameras have this feature. I have a Canon 30D. Not the newest,

    but not too bad. Thanks.

  6. I just returned from shooting sunrises/sunsets at Hilton Head, and am generally

not pleased with the lack of depth of field with many of the photos. I'm now

    reviewing back to basics.

In one photography book, Understanding Exposure, by Bryan Peterson, he suggests

presetting focus by using the distance setting on the lens. In theory, I

understand what he's saying, but in practice I'm confused as to how you line up

the numbers. IF you want depth of field to infinity, you line it up with

infinity? But if you want five feet, you line it up to five feet? I don't think

that's what he's suggesting. Also, where do you focus initially? Foreground?

    Background?

You can see my confusion! Please help. Your comments are more than welcome.

  7. My husband and I will be taking a 10 day tour of Italy in October, and I need

advice regarding a tripod. This is a guided tour, so unfortunately "all time"

is not my own, as we'll be on a schedule. But I want to capture as much as I

can. I love using a tripod, but don't know if I can handle one on the trip. Any

suggestions for a travel tripod? Or would a monopod do the trick? All

suggesions are welcome. I'm looking forward to capturing interior shots of the

Vatican etc, and dusk shots of Colisseum, etc.

    Many thanks for your advice.

  8. I want to shoot at our local aviary and museum, but both prohibit tripods.

Thought about using a monopod, but not sure I can guarantee the stability to

get a tack sharp image. Any suggestions? I know some monopods have a three

pronged base, but I just wish I could smuggle in my tripod. I also have a

steady bag, but that's not good enough either. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

  9. I have a Canon 30D, love it, but was just wondering about custom settings -- in

camera sharpness, contrast, saturation and color. I currently have sharpness

on 3 (of 7), and am keeping the rest in the middle.

Generally, what settings do you recommend. Many thanks.

  10. You've reviewed portable storage devices in the past (I think most recently in

early 2006), and wanted to get an updated recommendation to what's on the

market. I'm planning two 2-week trips this year and need something to store

photos from memory cards. Can you recommend? I've heard the Epson 3000 is

excellent and now has a $150 rebate.

I must admit, though, I really don't know much about storage devices and need

    your advice. Many thanks.

  11. Right now, I'm photographing (with my Canon 50 1/8) stationary subjects, such as tops of straws, acorns, toothpicks, berries. I'd never shoot spiders or flies, but may try wings of butterflies and close-ups of flowers. May also shoot patterns on rotting barns or other outdoor structures. Is this helpful?

As for the camera upgrade, I'm loving my Canon 30D, but may upgrade to a 5D in several years.

  12. I'm interested in getting into macro photography, and am interested in two

lenses. The Canon 100 macro, or the Canon 180 macro. Two good lenses with a big

price difference. I'd spend the money if it's worth it.

    Advice?

    Many thanks.

    I have the Canon 30D, with a 70-200 f/4 IS, the 17-55, and 85 f/1.8, and the 50

    f/1.8

  13. In October, my husband and I are planning a five-day visit to Oregon,

traveling from Portland to Pendleton in the east. As I've never been there,

any suggestions of great photo opportunities?

I particularly love nature and wildlife, and have heard at some locations

there are elk and wild Mustangs. That would be terrific.

    I have a Canon 30D.

    Many thanks for you input.
