  1. If you don't mind the drive into the (909), Riverside Community College was a great start for me. I also know they are are developing a joint program with U.C.Riverside and Riverside Art Museum in a new performing arts center. Last I checked it was scheduled to be done 2008 and had a wing set aside for photography. I have not check on progress in about a year.

    Something to look into anyway.

  2. Both are vehicles of communication. The more elaborate we are and the more types of communication we use, the more clear we will be. It also depends on where we are going with our message. Who is our audience? If I were going to go up in the hills and drive on dirt roads (or if I were to drive on the streets of Boston) I would take an off road vehicle, whereas if I were going to drive on smooth highways I would rather drive a car built for cruising. Text defiantly has its place. Imagery defiantly has its place. Often times they are strengthened by their support of each other. Often they are strong and beautiful on their own. I guess what it comes down to is knowing what you want to say and know who you are saying it to.
  3. I hope we never stop trying to do our best. Never stop progressing. It is through the stretching of our self that we find we can reach more and do more. In our abilities, we set our own limits. We plateau when we stop seeking perfection and stop seeking to do what we do a little better. Continue on in your perfection. Continue on in your stretching. Continue on in your progression. Just remember the little people that helped you along the way when you get to the top. 8>)
  4. The rule I use for myself is this: use every bit of space to relay my message. It?s not bad to break the traditional rules. However they are there because they generally work, so when breaking them, break them with purpose. Know why and how you are using your frame and what the space is doing for you. It?s ok if the space is negative or dead. Just know why you are doing it and ask yourself if this is adding to the image. If it?s not, regroup, reframe, and start again. Fill the frame with content.
  5. I believe that by stepping out of your own shell, and shooting both objects for objects sake and also shooting for deeper meaning, will make you better at both. As Photographers I believe we have a great opportunity to be able to grow from both. We will see each differently. Whether we display these images is up to us and we choose what we throw out there to represent ourselves. A football coach never tells his team to do drills on the field for game day. Yet they have the conditioning and the benefits of those drills done in practice.
  6. I have used the 85 f/1.8 often and i love that lens for a number of different reasons.

    One- It is fast.

Two- It is one of the cleanest lenses I have ever used. Everything that I want in focus is tack sharp and with the speed I can control exactly what is in focus.

Three- There is no zoom. It makes you think about your shot and where the action is. Using that lens will train your eye to see where and what is happening. You might get upset a couple of times at first because you think you have missed something, but you will find it makes you a better photographer with better exposures. Also don be afraid to turn up your iso. people are so afraid of noise but there is nothing wrong with it.
