Can I get a clarification on PNet from Bill? I googled it but wasn't sure what I was lookinf for. I'm interested in looking up more information on this subject also.

I've been shooting with an xti and 5D for about 2 yrs and currently using Picasa 3.0 for basic editing and printing, but (for obvious reasons) I'm getting more involved with the editing and printing and have a chance to get a copy of CS2 from a friend. I want to get away from JPEG for serious shoots and start using RAW also. Here's the issue, I've looked at CS2, elements, LR, bridge, and the Canon Eos software and am fairly confused as to what is best for what. What do the serious amatuers and pros use out there? Can you direct me to some good books or web articles to straighten me out. I know that color management is also an issue to. Thanks to all who can shed some light on this issue (about 3 stops worth would help... hah).

Wow, thanks for all the wonderful feedback. I feel tons better about using the R2400 now. Thanks for the paper recommodations. I'm going to get to testing papers immediately. Thanks again to all photo.net subscribers! And to all newbies nervous about posting, don't be!

I have a 2 part question. I'm starting to get more serious interest in selling and displaying my photos and need get
advice on printing directions. 1st, I have an Epson R2400 (very nice inkjet) that I feel produces some really nice
prints. I haven't really experimented with nicer or specialty papers yet and wondered if it's worth it or should I send
my pics off to a photo lab to be processed. I've gotten conflicting info from local photographers and have always
received good feedback from photo.net users. So, in a few less words, is the r2400 with better papers fine or should
I scout out a good photolab? (any suggestions on which photolabs would be appreciated) Thanks always to all who
respond!

I recenty found out that my buddies dad has some older FD primes (not sure of models yet!) and EOS to FD
adapters. Now I was just looking into purchasing some low aperture primes this fall. (p.s. I have a 5D and XTI.) I'm
curious if anyone out there has some experience with similar combinations. I don't know much about FD's, but I
assume that there won't be any auto focusing, but will there be any focusing problems due to the adapters? These
will basically be free to me so I figured I'd give it a try. Thanks for any comments!

I'm very ashamed of myself. I just found this same question AFTER I posted this one. I swear I looked but missed it I guess. Please no nasty comments. and thanks to those still willing to comment.

My father currently uses Picasa2.x for is digital photo editing and is starting to find his limits with it. He wants to find
a new more flexible program but photoshop is a little to complicated for an old guy not familiar with the PC world.
Are there programs this forum could recomend between Picasa and Photoshop? Any suggestions will be greatly
appeciated.

I looked into the sd870 on amazon and found a good reviewer who pointed me to the sd770is. Here's the review:
I don't know how to link in this forum, hope that worked.

Thanks to all who have replied. I never would have guessed about the comfort of taking a DSLR to NY, but I'll give it some real thought now. My father has an XTI and I might just trade him for the weekend. Now if you don't mind? To those who have been to NY, should or can I take the camera as a carry on, or will I have to check it?
-
I'm going to NY for the 1st time ever and need a good Point & Shoot. I'd like a
large viewfinder (2.5 or up), 5x optical zoom, light and flat, 7mp or up, image
stablizing would be nice. I'm an amateur DSLR guy, but I don't want to take my
Canon 5D walking around the streets of NY. I'm not brand specific on this
subject. I'd like to see what has good noise reduction at higher ISO's. I know this
is a broad topic, but there are soooo many point and shoots out that I was getting
bogged done with reviews. Just looking for some good personal opinions. All
anwers will be highly appreciated!

I bought the Tamron 1st also and it did the job but tried my buddies Canon IS version and I felt it was vastly superior to the Tamron. I sold the Tamron soon after that and bought the Canon and haven't regretted it. The Tamron barrel spins opposite Canon also! That drove me nuts, missed a lot of good shots over that!

I have a 5D with the 24-105 lens and I doesn't work at all. You have to get it modified or get your hands on an older non filtered body. All my pics came out red and black and modifing them afterwards was difficult. The only thing that I use that filter with that lens for now is welding and torch cutting photos. They really look great with the red filtering.
Joseph Wisniewski- I'm curoius, are you saying that the Hoya R72 will work somewhat with the 5D or do you mean with a modified camera?

I just rented a 24-70mm 2.8L and a 70-200mm 2.8L IS from Borrowlenses.com and had great success. I ordered over the website, but called them to confirm being my 1st time dealing with them. Very polite customer service and awesome packaging. I will definately use them again. Good luck where ever you rent though!

Thanks all for the answers! Really appreciate it.
In regards to Joe, Yes I did loose my manual, Thanks!

I have a 5D and use the Long Exp NR from time to time. Right now I turn it off
after I'm done with long exp. shots. My question is: Does it affect the camera
or non-long exp shots if I just leave it on? It would be convenient not to be
toggling back and forth all the time. Thanks as always for any input!

This book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson (available @ Amazon.com) was a godsend for me! It really helped me with manual settings. This won't tell you how to use a specific camera, but will give you the understading to use any camera you pick up in the future. I believe he has a book about lighting also. Hope this helps!

I don't know if you're still checking this post, but here are some photos I took with a 5D with a 70-300 3.5-5.6. Theses are my daughters dance recital last week. When viewing pics look to the right and you'll see an option for more info, that will give you my camera data. Hope you enjoy the photos and good luck with your shoot!

I am interested in trading up to a 40D from a 400D. I looked at all the
specs and it seems to me to be a no brainer. On thing I noticed different is
the 40D didn't show and option for mirror lockup. I do like taking night
photos of stars and storms and I like the mirror lockup on the 400D.
For those who have a 40D, does it have lockup and not making note of it in
the literature, or if it doesn't, is it really a big deal and I could live
without it?

Did you try another lens? And why isn't the picture white?
-
I was reading some articles about slow sync flash photos and wanted to try
some, but I'm not sure how to set my cameras up. I have a 430ex, an XTI and a
5D. I looked in my manuals but it must be using different terminology. I'm
sure this is an easy one for most of you, but I'd sure like some help anyway.
Thanks as always.

Thanks a lot! My dad was an old stereo head and that will really make sense to him. You guys rock!

I grew up using a Rebel SII and about 2 years ago I went to an XTI and since
then now have a 5D. My question is how does one digital sensor reproduce the
effect of numerous film ISO ratings. Is it in the sensor or more done by the
programing. I'm trying to explain what I think is going on to my father (who
is not in any way computer literate) and failing miserably. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!

Does anybody have a link to a website with a good diagram or cut away view of
any modern prime or zoom lens? It doesn't matter what lens brand just looking
for a good visual model of the internal structure of zoom or prime lenses.
Thanks!

I was told that the XTI had a firmware upgrade that brought the ISO setting up
to 3200, but I have not been able to find anything on the internet about this.
If it's not out, does anybody know if Canon plans on doing an upgrade of this
variety? Thanks, Jake
