Hi,
I have a basic Hoya PLCir, but it only has one rotating glass element on the outer bezel, I was of the
understanding that there were supposed to be two pieces of glass in a circular polarizer.
can anyone shed any light on this? (pardon the pun)
thanks

you don't say whether you've actually formatted the transcend CF with the EOS.............

I suppose what I'm asking is, is there anything fundamentally wrong with the pictures that would suggest I've got majorly defective lenses?
I'm not trying to test its performance or DOF data, simply if the lens works as it should or not
thanks

I figured that a lens should be completely clear of foreign bodies, incl.
fungus, dust, condensation etc.
However I've read a few threads recently that say a small amount of dust (not
rocks) will not affect image quality. And, that most new lenses would have a
degree of dust in them from the assembly.
Is it true that small amounts of dust don't affect IQ and what's the reason
behind it, I (prolly incorrectly) assumed that any obscuration between light
and sensor would marr the image?
thanks

Have just lost the eyecup rubber off my EOS 400d, are there any better/more
suitable replacements out there or should I just replace it with a standard
EyecupEF?
thanks

Thanks to all who contributed for the quick and comprehensive answers, absolutely clear as day now. I know now that as long as I get a lens under 18mm its going to provide a wider angle than what I have.
Many thanks

Hi, I'm a little confused and when I ask camera shops I get a variety of
answers, non of which convince me, so hopefully someone here can clear this up.
EF-S lenses and cropping factor:
My EF 75-300mm actually has a field of view eqivalent to= 120-480mm when mated
to my 400d correct?
Is the same true for my kit lens of 18-55, is the true field of view of that
lens, 29-88mm?
I ask, so I can fully understand what focal lengths I need to be looking at.
Thanks in advance

Thank you, everyone for you input, I researched the topic based on the information provided, and sure enough the card is a fake, and was promptly returned to the seller, for a full refund, so I'm satisfied with the outcome.
For a bit more info, yes I was transferring the data to the computer using the EOS and not a card reader, I'm not a fan of card readers and can't really see their benefit.
With the continuous shooting test, I had the camera set to full manual, and was shooting exactly the same scene.
Futher comments always appreciated
many thanks

Just bought a Sandisk Extreme IV 2GB CF card, thinking, "great, loads of space,
ultra fast transfer", right? NO!
I'm confused, it seemed slower, so I did a very crude test:
took 20 pictures, and put them on the sandisk card, and the same 20 went onto my
old old old, 4x 1GB Lexar card, I mean like, 4 years old.
Now I was expecting the Sandisk to wipe the floor with the lexar, you know 4x,
compared to 250x+.
The Lexar was marginally faster to copy the files to the computer from, by a
couple of seconds.
In addition, when set to continuous shooting, I can reel off 27 pictures on the
lexar before it stops, with the Sandisk, only 22!?!
I'm very confused, and would like some advice. dispite receiving the Sandisk
fully boxed and with warranty card, pouch and OEM software, I'm wondering if
it's a fake card.
any comments?
thanks

Thanks for the eyecup info guys, I understand now, and am kicking myself I didn't work that one out for myself. Can't now figure out which is better, squished nose, or smaller viewfinder..........
also, anyone any ideas on the lens repair question.
thanks again

firstly, hello to all who use the forum, I'm new to EOS, and new to the forum,
and hope it's ok that I post a few questions. If I mess up, it's only cos I'm
not used to the forum, so please excuse me and point me in the right direction.
I have a couple of quick questions I was hoping for some help with.
1: The EP-EX15 eyecup extender, do any of you use it? I was planning on getting
one as I like the idea of not squashing my nose and marking my screen, but I'm a
little dubious about the -30% magnification. Why is it designed to reduce the
picture size in the viewfinder, and what advantage does that offer. My thoughts
are that a bigger viewfinder would be better, am I wrong?
2: I have a 28-105mm FTM mk2 lens, which is damaged. The lens works fine in
auto, but in manual, there is a loss of friction on the focus ring, sometimes
it'll work, others it'll just spin. Is this a common problem? Can I fix it
myself? or must I have it repaired professionally, if so, so I have to send it
to Canon, or would a generic lens repairer be ok, and what should it cost me?
thank you in advance for your help and advice.

ND Grad

Hi, is it possible to get standard screw in ND grad filters, I'd like to get a couple but don't want the hassle of having to
buy all the cokin slot in gubbins.
thanks
