  1. What's the word that describes how things look when out of focus? I mean the way that geometric forms can be seen

in the background with shallow DoF... the word could be used as "this lens produces good ____ ". Anyone? I'm

blanking on this, and it'll haunt me.

  2. Sorry if this has been asked, I couldn't find it with the words I could think of searching with... which probably

weren't the most accurate for a search.

Anyway, my EOS-300D has started having problems. Specifically, the camera can no longer change shooting mode

(stuck in A. Priority, luckily what I most use), won't respond to the button that changes self-timer and rapid

mode and won't zoom in or out in preview. The menu button, arrows/WB, on/off switch, thing I hold to set exposure

compensation and exposure dial are all fine. Any ideas? My first thought was that reinstalling firmware would

help, but from what I can tell that's not actually possible. I don't know of anything that has happened to do

this, and I'd rather not open it up until I get other opinions.

  3. As far as resolution goes, even today I'd say a lot of high end numbers are unnecessary for most users; but that doesn't matter. It only matters how it's sold, and general consumers can be convinced that more is always better, even if they'll never actually see a change. They'll buy whatever's new. So that's really up to the companies making and marketing cameras more than anything.

Cell phones have gotten up there in resolution as well, but I don't know how the "problem" of lens size will be dealt with in the future. Hopefully it isn't. I for one don't see a future of high quality automatic cameras that fit in a pocket and cost less than a month's groceries as good for photography in general.

  4. Hi,

My production team (...me) is working on creating a business plan for a local

competition. It's a bit difficult, and I was hoping the experience here could

    help with a few things.

Industry analysis has been difficult. Can any data be given on the state of the

photography services market, and what opportunities are generally available?

What target markets are most rewarding in wedding photography? Event? Portrait?

What marketing forms have been successful for this demographic?

What numbers are reasonable for wedding and even calls? Portraits? Other?

What sort of income numbers are reasonable for a photography services business?

This includes monthly, seasonal and annual numbers.

There's probably more; if it goes in a business plan, we need help with it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
