  1. Since you already own a medium telephoto (70-210mm) you should purchase a prime one in the 400mm range. The only affordable choise is the EF 400mm f/5.6 L which is extremely, unbelievably sharp and is sharper than the 100-400mm zoom and the ef 300mm f/4 L + 1.4 tc combination.

The 300mm f/4 L you think buying will not be enough especially if you visit parks where off track driving is prohibited (like Serengeti in Tanzania).Greetings from Greece, Teo

  2. It is the dummest thing in the world to believe that a wild cat either a big one (Lion, Tiger, Leopard) or a small one (like Serval and Caracal which are frequently for sale in the USA) will ever become pets. They might seem friendly for a while but the predator instinct is always there and some day they will attack for sure. Wild animals belong to wilderness not in the zoo or private properties.

Wildlife photography is my interest and all these years I have never ever felt any kind of threat taking animal shots. As long as you show respect and keep your distance you are in no danger at all. From my point of view accidents like this mentioned above are the result of human stupidity....nothing more, nothing less
