  1. You just gotta work together - you are each hired professionals and each have a responsibiity to get good stuff for the couple, which necessitates working together to ensure such coverage...

I flat out disagrees that there is a precedence of one over the other, unless the client specifically says so. There is no tier. Period. Both professionals are being paid and each need to cooperate so that each has a tremendous final product.

If you could see either photos of the day your grandparents were married - or a video of that day - and could only see one, which would be chosen? Both are absolutely pricless, but video would be a rich journey back - you can't say that video is less important than photo; both are key.

  2. As long as your clients (1) own and (2) provide the music, you can use any at their request.

The key with the legal isues with music is that they need to own it - your service is just taking photo and setting them to music they own. 100% legal.

  3. Wow-

    Soooo much potential-

The images are just too flat. Use some DOF and angles and get them moving a bit. And, yes, your Photoshop skills need some real work.

You have such good potential - with a little more attention to detail and more work post-production, I can see you doing quite well.

I hope that's not too abrasive.

Keep it up! Post some more!

  4. Help me!

I can't quite see why there is a $1000 difference between these two lenses. I keep scratching my head as I

look at site after site that has the 17-70 for $350 and the 17-55 for $1200.

Can anyone help me choose the best wide-angle lens?

  5. I love to have friends shoot pictures - it makes mine look all the better.

Photography has 2 phases - shooting and editing. Chances are (and it's been 100% for me) that when family members shoot, they botch either one of those 2 phases.

For me, I LOVE to have as many people shooting as possible because I know that when the bride sees my work and then compares it to ANY shot her friends or family have taken that they will IMMEDIATELY see why they've paid me $4000 to shoot their wedding.

  6. I'm guilty, Ni. We do photo and video. Photo seems to be #1 on people's lists of wedding to-do's.

I LOVE to network - I see people's work and love to see different styles and techniques, both for photo and video.

I also love to help clients find the best of everything - I don't want any client to get average photos nor average video. Hence my passion to network with good professionals on this forum.

On the video side, I get quite a few people seeking to work with - asking if I have any upcoming weddings for which there is a photo need. I've made some of my best professional friends through forums like this one that provide opportunities for connections that I wouldn't have made otherwise.

    Anyway, my two cents.

A Picture speaks a thousand words; video tells the rest of the story. Both are essential for full coverage. If you could see video of your parent's wedding or a still shot of the same day, which would you choose? Both are priceless, but you see the difference in experience with each medium.

    Anyway, I'm babbling.

I appreciate your post and your sincerety in inquiry.

  7. My partner and I are going to do 10 destination weddings this year for our 2008 demo - each will be done at cost. We've got 6 of this type of event booked (and 16 local ones). We'd love to explore covering videography with you and them -

When's the event and what type of budget are they on?

  8. Tigher shots - you work is too monotonous. You need to mix it up a bit. Have some fun with angles and such. Take some time to crop and edit. Have a few upclose shots mixed with the far-away shots. Open up your apeture and get some DOF.

Great shots, but with a little more variety, they could be amazing.

I'm anxious for #2 wedding after all this feedback!

  9. We've done several (www.zvideography.com) and the response is overwhelmingly positive! To show how you interact with a bride and groom and families is pricless. In addition to footage of how the photographers are, we do a slidshow with photos. Many of the photographers we've done this for say that it's their greatest selling tool.

    I'd highly recommend it -

Have someone local do it for you - you won't regret the investment.

  10. C JO-

For some reason, I've had some bad luck today with responding to you!

In the process of fighting with your email client, the actions you sent were deleted and I am BUMMED!

Is there anyway you could re-send them? I will send mine your way as well when I get home for lunch.

    So sorry for the confusion...

    Eric

PS - Thanks in advance for the actions and the time you're taking to help me!

  11. We will cover her entire event for around $400-600 - have her look at our site. We travel all over and we're looking for desination weddings for our 2008 demo video; hence, the discounted price for a Portland wedding.

    She'll love us!

  12. Dear c jo gough - Carmel, CA

[or anyone else for that matter]

I want in on this action swap as well - I have 10 or so actions that I use quite often and would love to trade them for a few new ones.

I loved the ones on Brody Dezember's site - he and I did a project back in November - good man.

Anyway, feel free to send any my way and I'll reciprocate!

  13. We've done photos for quite a few years now and I'm trying to decide if I need a

camera upgrade. I can do so much post-production with photoshop and such that

I'm having trouble justifying the expence.

    Take a look at http://www.zvideography.com/photo

What do you think? Can I do a lot with my D70 or is it time to upgrade?

If so, what camera would you recommend?

And do you have any preferred lenses for my D70???
