1.
thanks everyone for your input. Here in Australia it is very expensive to hire camera equipment.

Have decided to buy the Samyang 14 mm lens. The person I am going with said he can assist and teach me re focussing this lens.

 2.
Thanks everyone for your input

Eric is the Nikon 20mm f/2.8 D lens is what I am referring to.
I have considered the 2/f1.8 EX DG Aspherical - it has a 82 mm lens - not sure whether a step-down filter will work on the lens to enable my 77 filters to be attached?
Shun - Unfortunately the Nikon 16-35mm is very expensive . and I will not be using this Lens too often after the trip - reluctant to buy it as my 24-70 mm meets most of my photography needs.
Any other comments?

 3.
I have a Nikon D700

My lenses at the moment are a Nikon 24-70mm lens and a 28-300mm lens

I have visiting Iceland in September and and have been advised to buy a ultra wide angle lens.

My issue is that I do not want to spend a lot of money on a Lens that I will seldom use after the trip.

I have done lots of research and have decided on 2 possible lenses .

These choices are based on price and good reviews.

1. Samyang 14 mm - downside - no filter ring - heavy - but has received good reviews.

2. Nikon 20mm f/2 lens - good price - filter ring 62 mm - could buy a step up ring for my filters.

My question is would the end result of the photo be the same ? e.g. wide-angle result , quality of the photo?
Which would be easier to use?

I appreciate from people who know both the lenses?

thank you

.

 4.
Thank everyone for your input - - I put in 5000 instead of 500 some photos output was enormous, others not exactly want is needed. see screen shot of the information I put into the export module.

The person I sending the photos to gave me the following response:

"Sue I don't use Lightroom but in photoshop you go to "Save" (or "Save As", that allows you to change filename) and adjust the compression ratio from 1 to 12. As you adjust the slider the file size changes and it shows you what the file size is. The simplest is just to adjust the slider until the file size is in the order of 5Mb as shown here. You DO NOT want to change the pixel dimensions of the image only the amount of compression! By the way it is kB KB is wrong and meaningless!
What is your view in relation to Lightroom.

 5.
I have a Mac and camera is a D700 - this equals to 4246 x 2832 in raw original file.

I have a number of photos that I have undertaken editing and some cropping

I need to export photos at the highest resolution with no compression To end up with a size that is 5MB.

Previously I exported and checked the limit size - I am not aware that Lightroom has an option for MB only kb. Anyway I limited the size to 500kb and not to 5MB. I doing this I did not realize the difference and therefore my output photos were too small. I have come to realize that checking limit the size is not the thing to do.
However, I do not know what numbers to place in options provided which are " Dimensions" , Width & Height, Long Edge, Short Edge, or Megapixels

Be grateful if somebody could provide the exact size and information to enter into the Output panel to achieve a 5MB output size.

thank you

 6.
I am sending some photos to my on-line lab to print 10 x8 and 12 x 8 prints. for my local club photo competitions.. These photos will have a matt border.

Not sure whether I should request a white border around them?

If you think it will look good what size should the border be?

Would I request the above sizes plus the border - or does will the 10 x8 or 12 x 8 request remain the same.

 7.
I went window shopping today looking at the Vangard carbon Fibre tripods and the Indura Carbon Fibre CT214. There are very few retail photographic outlets in Melbourne so many makes are not available .

I am very happy with the Indura CT214. Well made, light and sturdy. Unfortunately it is pretty expensive here in Australia $484.00. Does anybody have any knowledge where I would find on line a cheaper price on the net?

 8.
Thanks everybody for your helpful responses.

Andy in your view do you think the Feison Travel CT-3441S could be a better option for me than than the Manfrotto 055CXPro3 or the Indura Carbon *X CT 114 tripod?

I know it it is a difficult decision - seems the heights of the tripods meet my needs - which is the sturdiest as well as the easiest to use and carry around?

One other thing will my Markins ballhead fit the Manfrotto and the Indura tripods?

Sue

 9.
Hi Rob

Thank you for your response.
I am 5ft 3in tall.

I have a Markins ball head that is now on my heavy Manfrotto tripod, which I will move to the new tripod I purchase
From the specs the Feisol Tripod is much taller than I am - not sure about the Indura.

 10.
I have a Nikon D700 camera, two lenses 28-70 mm and a 28-300 mm
I have narrowed down to 2 tripods
1. Indura Carbon 8X CT 114 tripod
2. Feisol Travel CT-3441S Rapid 4 -Section Carbon Traveler Tripod
My needs are for a light tripod that is easy to set up and fold as small as possible. Of course it needs to be sturdy.
Has anybody had any experience with these tripods.

thank you

 11.
Hi Don

Great information - much appreciated. I will also be off line for a week from tomorrow 27. 12.2012. However I will contact you via your email if you could send me your itinerary. Thank you

Sue

 12.
Done all what you have said copied and pasted onto the DCIM so that is it then- All I have to do is remove the CD card and insert this into the camera.

A question I have is once I inserted the CD card into the card reader Lightroom opens up - thinking that there are photos to upload. What I have done is close Lightroom and use the Nikon DCIM on my desktop. Is this Ok.
