  1. Thanks everyone!!!! Yes, The lense (which the camera shop put on for me) was upside down on the lensboard! Once I asked the store owner about it, we flipped it over and sure enough.... it works!!! YEAH!!! Thanks so much for the help!
  2. I just set up my first darkroom!!! I am starting off with a Rollei 6x7 CXL

dichroic enlarger, but I need a bit of help....I just played with it yesterday

(sort of checking to make sure the chemicals weremixed right) and as I used the

enlarger, I tried to make a standard 8 x10 from a negative. I could NOT get it

to focus... I could only get the picture to be approx. 3 x 4 inches or so. Am

I missing something? I am used to using the Beseller enlargers at my school,

and never had a problem, but maybe I need something I did not know about.. Any

    suggestions?

  3. I am enjoying all the advice! Currently, I am a stay-at-home mom who has LOVED photography since high school. I am financially secure and am entering school to begin career. I am not wanting to jump into owning my own company right away, but I want to assist and LEARN as much as possible. As I learn, I am sure I will add to my gear, but I would like to start out equipped to handle most situations.

I am thinking of picking up a couple of lenses first, then upgrading to a 30D to get me through school and maybe to assist a local photographer. I think all of your advice will help me determine what to bring to it to get started! As I learn I will definitely make those lists of need and determine the things I will get the most use from. Then buy as the need arises! Thanks so much!

  4. I just registered for my photography courses and am starting on my journey to

become a "real" photographer! I want to specialize in weddings, engagements,

    and portraits.

Now, if you were just starting again, and had:

a Canon Rebel (3 years old, w/stock lense),

    a 430ex speedlite,

    75-300mm 1:4-5.6 lense,

and say, $5000 to spend on eqiupment

What would you buy (30D, 5D, Lenses, filters, Laptop for Adobe, etc)?

I will be sticking with the Canon Brand for cameras, but am willing to use

other compatable equipment and I want to stick with PCs instead of Mac.

    Thanks!

  5. Thanks for all the input! I am learning all the time, and am trying to improve my shooting techniques. I know a lense won't fix it all, but I am at least hoping it will improve a bit. My problem seems to be when a photo is taken in good light and in focus, the lines just are still not as crisp as I would like to see them. If I step up to a good lense and see I am having a problem still, with no imporovement, then I definately know its ME.

I REALLY appreciate all the help and suggestion you all are providing me! I will probably have alot more of these questions in the future, since I don't have a local mentor yet (just moved).

    Thanks Again!

  6. I have a Canon XT. I am wanting to get a SHARPER image than the kit lense.

I would LOVE to get a 18-55 IS lens, but those are just too much for me since

I am about to spend a ton on a Tablet PC. I want to stay around $500 give or

    take $100. Now the question:

Would I be better to spend the money on a

    A) Tamron SP 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD

    B) Tamron17-35mm f/2.8-4.0 Di LD IF Lens

    C) Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Lens

D)Splurge a little more and get Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM Lens.

I am not doing anything but taking family event photos such as parties,

weddings (which would otherwise not have a photographer), and general

portraits of my kids and family members. I am hoping to get into photography

classes and HOPEFULLY work as an assistant to a photographer (wedding or

portrait), so I would like somethign that would be able to grow with me as I

learn. The next investment will be upgrading the camera but I will be staying

    with a Canon.

    Thanks for the Help!

  7. Nadine,

"or having the groom dip the bride when he or she is "round-er in the waist".

That is exactly the thing I am talking about! This is my MIL's first "Wedding" so she is wanting some of the more traditional shots, but I haven't recieve her list yet. I do have her making one up so we can be sure to have the people she wants in them.

I know most of the shots will be candids and that is why she asked me to take them (I did a 50th Anniversary party she really liked). I was just hoping to find a few nice shots that would be a "semi-planned" shot, just to spice it up a bit.

    William,

"But, are you sure they don't just want to break loose and have some fun and strike some of the energetic sexy poses. Let's face it ... life's not getting shorter and it could be a lot of fun. "

I don't thing they are quite the type, but the ideas you gave were awesome! I am going to be putting together an album for them once I return home, and the ideas of scanning in the childhood photos are great!

I have the benefit that I know the church VERY well since it is the one I was married in and I grew up taking field trips to. I know a few nice spots I can put them into to take photos of the wedding party and as a couple. Unfortunately, the spots are few since the park area is a bit sandy and greenery includes mostly palmetto bushes. I will be down for several days before the ceremony, and plan on scoping out a few more areas. Plus I will be there for the rehersal and the rehersal dinner is on the Beach at sunset, so hoping to get some great shots there as well.

    Thanks to everyone for helping....

  8. My mother in law is getting married...... (Boy, that sounds strange to say).

We are looking through websites and magazines to find some poses to include,

but I am having trouble. Most wedding albums have the beautiful young bride

and groom, in their "youthful, energetic, lovey" styles, but we need a

more "mature" love style. They are in their mid-50's and the wedding is a

semi-formal daytime event at a historical church. There will be Flower girls,

but not bridesmaids. (plus, I should mention that some members of the group

may be a bit, ummm, round-er in the waist).

Does anyone have any suggestions or website with some samples that you can

    refer me to?

    Thanks so much!
