I consider myself to be an advanced beginner in photography. I bought my
first digital camera in 2003 - a Fuji FinePix 2800, in 2004 a Fuji Finepix
3800 and in 2005 A Fuji Finepix S7000. I am considering a Nikon D80 or D200.
I can read a manual and figure out things - but am having a hard time
understanding the lens sizes that I am seeing. All I have on my S7000 is a
wide angle .45mm and a 3x telephoto. I don't know what size lenses I will
need for the kind of photography I like to take (scenery, flowers, my
grandbabies, and some portraits of friends and family) I love the super macro
setting on my S7000 and want a lens that I can continue those kinds of
pictures. When a lens says 70-300mm - does it mean 70mm are the closest and
the 300mm the farthest from the camera? Just how big is a millimeter compared
to an inch. I have tried to find this info but I guess all the books assume I
already know it! Thanks for any clarification!
