  1. Okay, just got an email back from Sony as I thought I'd check...and yes, there was a batch of H3s that do have a flash fault, and I've unluckily had two in a row with it.

However, it is easy to fix, and have the part in stock to handle it (they didn't originally, which is why I got a new camera and not repaired), and just told me to take it into their local service agent.

So easy fixed! So if your H3 flash just stops firing for no reason- Don't panic! ;-)

  2. Hi all-

I've returned a Cybershot H3 with a faulty flash (Just stopped popping

up automatically, but would still flash if you popped it up with your finger),

which was under the 1yr guarantee...now the second has done the same thing but

    suddenly came right.

I see a few other flash complaints throughout this forum, and was just

wondering if it's a commonly known problem with Sony cameras?

    Cheers, Mike

  3. It's weird, My H3 flash just stopped. If I flicked the flash up it would then flash, but otherwise it wouldn't go on when it was automatically supposed to.

I returned it as it was under warranty...and after waiting a few weeks they simply replaced rather than repaired as the 'part was delayed.'

Today, the second one did EXACTLY the same thing this morning, but checked again this afternoon it's suddenly fine again! Bizarre.

I'll keep an eye on it as it's under guarantee until the end of the year, but still am concerned. Is it something I did to accidently turn it off? Is it a brummy batch of models? Is it a Sony problem?

I'd love to know more about it.

  4. Hi,

    I've got a little Cybershot H3, which is a great wee camera...but I am

    having problems regarding the flash.

What has happened, is the flash has stopped going automatically in the auto

settings. If you flip the flash up with your finger and use, it will still fire

okay, but otherwise it just won't use it if required.

It is not old, under warrantee, and has already been replaced once for exactly

the same problem. And was replaced, not repaired, so it seems odd it's happened

    again.

Is it something I'm doing? Is it a setting I've accidently hit, although I

don't know how, I've only changed the modes for different shots, nothing

else...and have reset back to factory default and still no luck.

Suggestions? I'm tempted to request a panasonic or something to replace this

time if it has to go back. Perhaps it's a bad batch.

    Any advice welcome and appreciated

    Thanks.

  5. Cheers Dude! I don't think you'll go wrong with whatever brand of Premium camera you choose- If it feels right and takes good pics, and has plenty of available gear, who cares what brand it is?!

I do understand the stress involved when buying a new system though...there's a lot of cash tied up in a system, you want to get it right first time without thoughts of 'what if' or the hassle of selling at a loss and starting again.

  6. Can I think of a reason to switch? No, quite frankly.

If you bought it, and like it, and find you get results you want...what's the problem? Are you happy with the additional gear to get for your system?

It really is six of one, half dozen of the other when you're buying a premium product in anything IMO, camera or otherwise. I love Nikons, used them first found them great and stuck with them. But I have friends with other brands, including yours, who love and swear by them. Perhaps you could talk to the retailer you bought it from...maybe they would loan you a Nikon to try so you can see which you prefer- Because from what I can tell with my limited knowledge on it- Many here that know far more than me seem to be saying the same thing though- It just doesn't matter, both are excellent and it's totally down to personal taste.

On that subject, I shudder to think how many bad online reviews are down to a single bad experience with a one in a million bad lemon camera (Or user for that matter).

  7. Hi Eric, welcome from another 'newbie' to AF photography! I've had a manual for years and finally stepped up to AF units (when everyone else is into digital!). I'm just learning the ins and outs with a N65 and the Magic Lantern book that goes with it, and loving it.

As for lens, it does depend on what you want out of it I would say. To start my set up, I've gone for a 28-100 zoom which seems versatile enough for a wide variety when experimenting initially, and just bought a 90-300 that I found cheap on a local auction. It seems most tend to go for those two, or around those two, for their first lens.

Enjoy! I'll leave some more knowledgable chaps to carry on!

  8. Couldn't agree more with topic creator. On a forum IMO it is impossible to not cover the same subject or question more than once, and providing it's not something obvious being asked every second hour, it's a bit anal to blast someone for asking something that was also asked on a Tuesday two months ago if only they looked etc etc.

The thing to remember that most people that ask something that has been asked before are usually (A) New to the site and don't know their way around, and (B) Possibly new to photography (Or at least that subject in photography they're asking about)- So I think it just shows a bit of consideration to go easy on such posters, and help them out a bit.

  9. Don't know how old this discussion is, but been looking online for comparisons between the two as I have a F65 and wanted a manual for it, and found a F75 Manual locally. Going through the manual there is very little difference abpart from the ones mentioned above. I'm using the F75 Manual to learn the features of the F65 and it's helping my fine! :-)

Like all the advice says, I will get a F80 at some stage, but for now I'm loving the F65, just upgraded from the F50. I have no basis of comparison with the more regarded models, and just enjoying learning about them.

Slightly off topic regarding selecting film speed...Pardon my ignorance, but can't you just scribble over the DX coding barcode with a felt pen or something, then a 'select speed' option comes up on camera? It works with the F50. Or is that a different discussion? Again, forgive me if I got that wrong, I still have my 'L' plates on! Regards, Mike

  10. Well, after a week with the F65 I must say I'm enjoying the experience. I find for the most part the more lightweight aspect works for me, although in some ways I prefer the more solid build of the F50. The other thing I prefer about the F50 over the F65 is the viewfinder is a nice big size. Other than that, the F65 seems much better for me.

Will hang onto the F50 for a few weeks first, make certain I really like the F65 over it.

Thanks heaps guys, will be back to ask about the F80 when I see a good deal on it! :-)

  11. Yeah, fair points. I've heard so many good things about the F80 I'm sure I will upgrade to one of these when I see the right deal. I can't believe what bargains in film SLRs you can pick up now!

If spec for spec there is little between the f50/f65, I think I will stick with the 'new toy', being newer and in next to new condition. My wife has a digital compace as well that I bought her last year, so it's not often she wants the lug around a SLR, whereas I can't bear to go anywhere without throwing it in the car.

  12. Well, I used to carry around an Olympus Mju (With my bag of manual SLR stuff), and found it excellent.

Recently, I bought a Nikon Zoom 300- partly for the pocketable point & shoot for times I didn't want a SLR with me, and wanted to play with the panoramic function it has. Dirt cheap and i was blown away with how good the results are.

  13. Thanks guys, appreciate the advice. Eventually I'll move onto a higher specced cam, but Lol, I just moved onto these ones! I've been using my old manual SLR since the '80s (Along with a Mju compact) as back then as a student it's all I could afford. But I'm pleased about that, as the beloved manual beast made me do everything myself and taught me a lot. And never let me down! I still have it!

I've been really loving using the F50, and of course not knowing any better or using a higher grade, for the last year I've had a blast with it. When I saw this F65 going even cheaper yet in mint condition I thought I may as well try that! From what I could tell with my limited AF SLR knowledge with various site reviews, it seemed like a good option for a beginner such as myself. I haven't been much more than a 'serious snapshooter' if there's such a thing...but getting into these new (for me!) cameras has got my excited about photography. I'm certainly going to enjoy mucking about with it, and the price was right.

  14. Hi- Like many others I'll begin by apologising for my ignorance! I've used a

manual SLR for years and enjoyed it...last year, while everyone else is moving

onto Digital, I bit the bullet and moved onto the Nikon F50, bought cheaply

locally. I've been loving it, and it's been fun to use. However, due to film

SLRs getting cheaper and cheaper, I've aquired a next to new F65 as well.

Those in the know- Which is regarded as the better camera to stick with? The

other I'll probably sell on, or give to my wife if she wants it.

    Thanks for your advice :-)

  15. Hi all, just signed up for the forum...

I recently bought a Nikon Point & Shoot film camera, the Nikon zoom 300, to

put in the side pocket for times I can't take my SLR with me. Yep...I'm a

fellow old fashion guy sticking with the film.

Anyway, bought the compact from an internet auction, and been pretty stoked at

the quality of what it can do. However, I never got a manual with it.

Obviously with a point and shoot a manual isn't really required, normally I

would be happy to pay for a download of the manual if I had bought a more

complex unit- But I was wondering if anyone out there had one, and had the

time to run through some of the modes built in/with the one screen icons on

the LCD. Most I can work out, but it would be great to get some feedback from

an experienced user if I could.

So thanks to all, and good to be on the forum! I'm sure I'll learn lots from

    members on this site! :-)
