1.
I have to Agree with both Dave lee and Donald Bryant posts
My honest opinion is that your main investment is the Glass and not the camera! Cameras! They come and go! But Glass is forever! Nikon have supported their glass since the 1960s and as long as it as it is Ais and as the Nikon mount, You can use it on any of the nikon range of slr, dslr! Although be carefull some of the newer digital lenses arn't backwards compatible with older nikon Film cameras
I know I'm going to get flamed for this! But stay away from the newer lesser supported makes ie Sony pentax etc,
Stick with either Canon or Nikon, both have a thriving s/h market for lenses and you can pick up some realy nice lenses off of fleabay if you know what your looking at and the seller as good feedback,
And as long as you stick with Prime Lenses with either brand you can't go far wrong!
I have to admit to being a Nikon Digital User with A D1X D1H D2H D2X and an assortment of Prime lenses and all of the crap that goes with it!
However! Bare in mind that if you plan on buying brand new both makes will lose a fortune the second you take the camera out of the box,
My D2x was bought from a local guy off of ebay with 22000 actuations! 11 months old for £1100 with some Nikon bits"n"bobs
The price he paid for the camera inc bits was £4398 new from Calumet in Glasgow,
At the time I though that I had won a watch! And in a way I did! (Because the guy was local I could checkout the camera before I handed over my payment)
But in hindsight it was about the right Price for what it was. A s/h Dslr so consider getting a used still under some warrenty dslr and put the saved money towards better Glass,
Also the taking lessions comment is an excellent suggestion! Take just one lesson and you can skip severial weeks of mistakes! Take an entire course and your a semi pro in a few weeks,
Another thing to consider is computers and photo editing most pc users use adobe! Lightroom is excellent, I would only consider photoshop if you want to drasticley alter or edit your photos ( I limit myself to 2 minutes in LR to edit any pictures that I have to fix) beyond that and I usually don't bother with the picture
Get it right in the camera and it saves a ton of time in photo editing

  2.
H'm how about a 1000mm F11 nikon Reflex lens
not much good for anything other than moon and shots and some distance shots but not to shabby at that
you should be able to pick one up for About £250 £300 in excellent condition,
However if you do decide to go for one of these lenses make sure to try to get all of the bits ie handle and filters as they can be a bit hard to get hold off.

00XuvS-314689584.thumb.jpg.59ea5a50439631f4f49843a5debb247c.jpg

  3.
Hi All I have a Nikon fit Tamron 300mm Sp, Ld, If lens! One of the early ones before the chip update,
This is a beutifull lens not a mark on it and spotless,to good to just leave on the sheilf,
my problem is that while it will work on my Nikon Film Cameras,
Because it's the older Af lens! My Nikon D2x and D1x Wont work in Af! fine in manual, In AF mode it just hunts all the time,
I'm looking for Advice!
Should I just leave it as is,
Or get the Tamron conversion which means a strip down and replacement of most of the backend It's not just a chip update apprantly, But a complete rebuild Costing a fare few hundred £Sss
Or as anyone found a way round making this lens work with the Nikon D2x
i do have a Nikon Tc16a M to AF Converter which works fine on most of my older manual nikon prime lenses.
But Iv'e been a bit reluctant to try this on the tamron incase i do damage somewere, Any Advice greatly appreceated
4.
Actually I've Came (excuse the pun) acoss this a couple of times with Models
Some shave most art models Don't, The best you can hope for is that they have trimmed slightly
Removing pubic hair as only been popular with women and photography in the last 15 to 20 years before that it was pretty much au natural

A pure Art model as you have found out will not shave or do anything to change their appreance as this is their natural form

  5.
Hi Guys as I'm off to Inverness (scottish highlands) late on tonight and tomorrow night
can anoyone offer me advise on how to start getting some decent shots of the moon
I have a Nikon D2x my biggiest lens is a Nikon Reflex 1000mm F:11
I've heard on this forum that it's a pretty ok Moon lens
I was just wondering were I should start my settings
Sorry almost forgot, I also have a decent tripod and electronic release so camera shake should be at a minimum thanks Ray:)

  7.
Hi Mark
Don't want to be an alarmist but sounds like you have fried something in your camera from what I rememeber the old courtney series 2000 which i think mine is,
puts out a lot of voltage ie thousands of volts against the 12- 25 volts the my Nikon d2 and d1 series can handle
nearly all digital cameras cannot handle anything near the voltage that these old flash heads put out I bought of off ebay a remote wirelss flash receiver and transmitter. a cheapo one with 3 receivers and one transmitter this cut out the chance of any damage to my camera I'm sure i can find the link if you want it, See if you try your camera flash with another flash head i think that you will find that your synch is not working or even that the flash itself dosent work if this is the case then it's an ebay get rid and look for a new camera as most of the time they are to expensive to repair. Sorry to be the barer of doom amd gollm
Ray:)

  8. Not sure what you meand by bulb

do you mean the bulb that lights up the area your going to photograph or do you mean the Strobe this is the outer ring part that flash's when you take a picture.

if it's the strobe then check to make sure it's not a capacitar as these hold the high voltage needed for the strobe and sometimes go faulty.also check your fuse not sure of the 600 but the 2000 i have as an internal low amperage fuse,

if it is in fact the bulb (the lighty up bit) then don't buy any of the modern energy saver bulbs that claim to work with flash heads they are designed for the modern flash units and not the older types like this, and will not work...the new bulds I had to get were the older element type buld... if your in the UK the bulbs i got for my Solaflsah 2000 were Thorn 220/230V-150W p3/4 enlarger E27..542-245B

    hope this helps

  9. Help I know that Courtenay stopped trading a few years ago I just wondered if

anyone knows of any Flash Strobes for the solaflash 2000 I think that one of

mine maybe on the way out and wondered if anyone can point me to a supplier or

conversion for this unit,or even an actuall strobe.

it's far to good a studio system to just give up on,

does anyone have any specs for this strobe i can maybe get something that will

    be a very close match...
