Hi
I dropped my SB-600 and it stopped working, it turned out that that the batteries had flattened the contacts inside. I carefully pried them back up with a screwdriver and all is well again.
Have a look to see if this is what happened to your one.
The give away is the battery cover does not spring up when released.
Good luck
I had a D70 And I tried faster cards and it made very little difference once the buffer memory was full the camera stops until it clears an image, a faster card just means the pause is slightly shorter. I now have a D200 and It takes 20 shots now and then does the same as the D70.
Its Mostly in the size of the buffer memory. The pause once the buffer is full seems to be the same wether I use a 100x card or micro drive which are the slowest, But I have not timed it it just seems the same, the camera still stops. I hope this is of some help.
Dropping Canon

Recently we had a demonstration of flash portraits at our club.
The instructor was using a Sony A7 with manual off camera flash.
I noticed that he had to open up the aperture on the lens to focus and compose ( it was on a tripod)
then close the aperture down to take the picture, as the image was too dark to see.
That does not happen with a optical viewfinder.
I also noticed that the battery was going down at an alarming rate.
He was showing the pictures tethered to a large screen.
Not saying that the camera was not great because I have seen images from other members that have the
same camera that are stunning.
I just feel that the mirrorless technology is not as mature as DSLR's and if you are thinking of swopping to
them I personally would wait a bit longer to see what the manufacturers come up with to address these
issues, especially the battery life.
Also I think the price of the bodies is very high for something that has relatively few moving parts.
Only my opinion.
