  1. <p>Hi,<br>

Is anyone of you, wedding photographers, using the Nikkor 70-300 4-5.6 VR lens ?<br>

I have professional skills and know that 2.8 is better ...but money is an issue for me right now.<br>

If someone is using this lens, can you pls tell me if its enough sharp to get professional results.<br>

I use the Sigma 70-300 APO, which has a sloooooow focus and doesn't find the eyes (lets say that it stops more on the nose or on the ears... front/back focus problem)<br>

I would use it mainly for portrait sessions and kids photography (inhouse use with 5.6 to 8 aperture)<br>

    Thanks for your advice...<br>

    Bye<br>

    Mike</p>

  2. <p>Hi,<br>

    I'm a wedding photographer starting studio shoot. I need a tele but can't afford a 2.8 by now.<br>

As its mainly for studio use where large aperture is not the main point, I'd like to know if some of you on<br>

this forum use this lens, if you are happy with it and...if you can get professional results with it.<br>

It should be used for baby / children shoot ... so focus speed is still an important point.<br>

I use the sigma 70-300 apo at the moment and even with its sloooow focus, I get very sharp portrait within the 70-200 range. (the lens will be used on a D3)<br>

    Thanks for your help.<br>

  3. <p>Hi,<br>

    I'm looking for a D3 replacement strap.<br>

My local vendor proposed me the blackrapid stuff.<br>

Is any wedding shooter here using a blackrapid strap ? which model ? Is it safe for the camera ?<br>

    Thanks for your help.</p>

  4. <p>Hi,<br>

My D3's strap needs to be replaced. A local vendor proposed me the blackrapid stuff which seems good.<br>

Is any wedding shooter here using this strap ? What's about camera safety ?<br>

    Thanks for your advice.<br>

  5. <p>Hi,<br>

I'm looking for a good portraits (and more) lens.<br>

I use the D3 with the 300usd sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 (shame on me)... but trust me it works well when light is there and subject doesn't move.<br>

What would be the best choice between :<br>

    -85mm 1.4 (or 1.8 ?)<br>

    -135mm f2<br>

    -something else except tele-lens ?<br>

    thanks for your help<br>

  6. <p>Hi,<br>

Lets say that I shoot 1000 photos per wedding, as I deliver only 350 post processed photos to the clients, I note that choosing pictures takes me a lot more time that post process the good ones.<br>

When loaded in Lightroom, I review the photos, discard the bad ones and review them from start to end and repeat the process until I get something close to 350.<br>

Is the "discard" way too long compared to the "pick up" way ?<br>

For those of you that pick up and don't discard, don't you think you can miss something ?<br>

    thanks for your help.<br>

    Mike</p>

  7. <p>Thanks for your advices.<br>

but well.... I still need to make some more test te be sure. In your second paragraph, Nadine, you seems to point out well the situation, saying ... "easier to predict"<br>

last 2 weddings I went again on TTL and seems to work for me in most case... so ... I will adopt it I think<br>

    bye for now<br>

    Mike</p>

  8. <p>Hi,<br>

I usually use only the TTL mode (sb-800) during weddings. (I don't shoot with flash except on-camera sb-800)<br>

Last wedding, a photographer that was working with me told me he doesn't work with TTL at all. (he shoots with flashes)<br>

I did some tests but can not really understand the main difference.<br>

A mode seems to give better results in some situations but TTL seems more flexible.<br>

Is there a maximum ISO where A mode should/should not be used ?<br>

Does it give bets results only at 5.6/35mm head ?<br>

Is TTL the wedding favorite for shooters with only on-camera flash ?<br>

Nikon manual is one thing.... your experience is surely more...<br>

    Thanks for your help.</p>

  9. <p>Thank you for your answers. I will pick up a bit of all, I think<br>

-Make a break in the album and include bob's pictures seems a good idea to me.<br>

-Maybe add some text in my next contract to avoid such situation<br>

Thanks a lot lot lot for your help. Having diffrents point of view is great help for me !<br>

    bye <br>

    Mike </p>

  10. <p>Hi,<br>

I had a wedding where uncle bob's was giving me instructions and taking pictures in my back non-stop.<br>

The results is that we don't see him on group and family shots...<br>

The bride told me that she wants to include a few pictures from bob in their digital album.<br>

As bob's pictures are poor quality and without real interest (except the one he took with his wife in front of the mirror - the only pictures where bob and wife are present).<br>

Its very disturbing for me to put such pictures in my clients album... but the bride really wants...<br>

Should I accept to put these pictures and have a happy bride or refuse and risk to get in trouble with bob's clan ?<br>

Do you have such remarks in your contract like "other pictues than mine won't be included in the album" to avoid this kind of things or you don't really care about this and put your name on such pictures ? <br>

    Thanks for your help.<br>

    Regards,<br>

    Mike</p>

  12. Hi,

Each time I have to photography dances in a wedding, I select the S focus mode, then, MANUALLY select the AF

point which is the nearest of the head of the subject, depending on the picture I want, then shoot.

lets say I have two persons in front of me, one on my left, one one my right, these two persons dance together

A photographer told me yesterday I was wrong. He told me that he never touches the AF area point during dances.

always center AF, then focus on subject, then move a bit the camera up/down or right/left to put the subject in the

    frame...and shoot.

My question, is, am I really wrong. I know that i loose time when selecting the AF point I need but If the camera is in

autofocus mode, if I focus on a subject then move up/down or right/left the camera, the center AF point will maybe

point the the background and my subject will be blured, resulting in ruined shot ?

I hope I was clear even if i'm wrong....

    Your help is really welcome.

    Mike

  13. Thanks a lot to all of you. (as usual... : ) )

The idea of shooting RAW+Jpeg is not so bad... I just need to buy a few more cards...

but seems anyway to me the best thing. Flash shoots should not be so bad ...and for special light, I can use the RAW shoots. I often shoot for other photographers than require Jpegs only...

William : If I can get the money for another D3, I will maybe go for the ready to pick up D3 backup...

    Thanks again

    Mike

  14. Hi,

When I shoot an event, I use the same camera for both with and without flash shots. (since I've bought a good

camera, I don't shoot anymore with my backups).

Most of the time, the reception take place in two different rooms with fast moving dances. I often switch off the on-

camera flash and switch from manual to aperture to get more artistic shots, then after about one minute, switch back

manual with flash and alternate between the 2 rooms.

The problem is, if I set the white balance to custom, I need 4 presets (1st room with flash, 1st without, 2nd with, 2nd

without, 2nd room has often differents ceiling making different light) which seems to me a bit complicate to manage

and easier to forget restoring the good white balance after changing mode ?

Is my solution somewhere else than in the automatic white balance or Raw shooting ?

    Thanks for your help.

    Mike

  15. Hi,

    sorry for the delay...

I read carefully all your answers and for sure, its a matter to talk before and not after the event.

As you say Nadine : "What if his client (the one you photographed) sees their images on your website (even if not the same ones used by the other photographer"

William : my portfolio consists of 4 weddings (plus 10 other events Bar Mitzvah, etc...) and lets say that I would have to remove or at least to "hide" 2 weddings galleries (maybe the best) from the public area of my website.

  16. Hi,

As a new photographer, it took me some months to build a nice portfolio.

I have been hired by other photographers that were very satisfied with my work

and without any doubt, they get new clients with my photos...

As the next step in my business is the website (and to work for myself :),

I want your advice about :

-posting on my website, some of my pictures that i took when hired by another

photographer, (maybe the same ones that he shows to his client).

-what about if the photographer that hired you, puts YOUR photos on HIS website

as public galleries (not talking about secured galleries for clients) ?

(When I shoot for someone else, I don't sign any document regarding copyright

    or else)

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Mike

  17. Hi,

I have a D80 with sb-800, ultra high ceiling (no flash bounce) in a rather dark

    room.

I plan to use wide apertures @ 800 iso (above is too much for the D80) with a

    bit of (direct?) flash (lens are 30mm 1.4, 50mm 1.8, 17-50mm 2.8)

Is the use of apertures like 1.4, 2 or 2.8 took risky (blurry) for dance shots ?

I'm not talking about a slow dance but rather the one you have to catch at

    1/125s or 1/160s.

Your help & photo samples are welcome.

    Regards,

    Mike

  18. Thanks to all for your answers

(by the way... Keith, e-mule makes good prices too, but its not the direction i'm looking at...)

I just downloaded the Fotofusion trial and it seems to correspond to my needs.

    Thanks again

    bye,

    Mike
