1. I am frugal. After I take my shots, I simply take a shot with my cell phone. The cell phone tags the shot with GSP data. When I get home, I simply synchronize the GSP data on the cell phone image to the image(s) I took with my DSLR in Lightroom. It may not be accurate enough for land survey or giving evidence in court, but it is accurate enough for my purposes. As long as the clock on the DSLR is set to the same time as your cell phone, the images will appear together in Lightroom Grid View making synchronization easy.

Hi there, thanks for your reply. Your method would be accurate enough for my purposes too.

So you put both the images from your cell phone and the images shot on your SLR into the SAME directory on your PC in order to see the images together. Am i following you correctly? Then how do you import the location data from the cell phone into SLR images?

  2. The first one you linked to can also be put on the strap and is likely powered through the USB connection.

Never heard of the accessory shoe delivering power - but I live in the past, so who knows.

oh, then I was mistaken. I assumed power comes from hotshoe but cming from the cable makes more sense.

  3. Hello,

I am trying to figure out what is the best way to get the D51000 to add location info to the image files.

I could use something like this: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Micnova-GPS-Geotagger-for-Nikon/dp/B00CK907IY/

    But

    1. I need the hotshoe for flash. I use flash constantly, particularly for filler for daylight portraits.

    2. These hotshoe geotaggers need to connect to the camera via a micro usb cable to the side of the camera. And the cable sticking out of the side of the camera is notoriously prone to breakage. I am going to rough outdoor terrain overseas.

What do you use for geotagging? Somewhere I heard there is a geotagger that hangs from the strap. But haven't been able to find info about that.

Hello, in this video I am shifting the focus on a 46-year-old 55mm 1.2 AI lens. At second 4, you see how the image suddenly nudges to the left? That's not the camera moving. Something inside the lens shifts as I turn the focus.

The lens is damaged, correct? Does anyone have any idea if it is easily repairable?

It gives a gorgeous bokeh effect at wide open so I'm wondering if worth it to repair.

  5. Most cameras display the elapse time of the current clip. Some show the remaining time in the clip, and most the remaining time on the card. You can turn various display options on and off.

Hi Ed, it's that remaining time on the card I'm after. Possible to display that on a D5300? I think that is a critical info in order to plan ahead during a long shoot day.

  6. Hello,

When I start recording video on my D5300, it starts counting down from 20 mins on 1080 resolution on 30 mins on 720 resolution. But there is actually much more room left on my 32 gb card.

Does anyone know why it does this and not provide ACTUAL time left on the card?

This caused a huge panic during an interview shoot yesterday. I changed resolution to 720 from 1080 to extend time. But when I checked card in PC, I realized only 3 gb of 32 gb space was used up!

  7. Hello, I have a Hasselblad bellows shade that decades ago I used on a 500CM. I think the thread is called Bayonet. Now I want to use the shade on a 52 mm or 72 mm DSLR lens. I know there are adapters for the reverse - to use screw thread lens on a hassy lens but does not anyone know if possible to use a hassy thread on a screw thread? I think this is handy as there are many excellent Hassy filters out there.
  8.
Hello Everyone,
when I look at outdoor sunlight pics I've shot with my D5300 in Adobe Lightroom, it says the color temp is 4650. They look a bit blueish. When I change the settling in Lightroom Library from "As Shot" to "Daylight" the pics become warmer and look more normal.
Is the D5300 doing this by default or is there a setting I need to change inside the camera so it shoots daylight at 5500?
Thank you so much for your help in advance.

  9.
Hello, I just wanted to thank you for all responses. I ended up taking it to a Steve's Camera Repair in Culver City http://www.yelp.com/biz/steves-camera-service-center-culver-city and got it cleaned for $45 and it works now. It could have been worse if leakage had reached further in. I couldn't be happier because wanted to avoid buying another NIkon flash which I think are overpriced considering their flimsy construction.
Steve told me not ever use Duracell. He recommends EverReady lithium batteries and swears they last much longer and also don't leak.

  11.
Hello, I have a SB-600 that has trouble turning on or staying on because what of what seems battery connection issue.
Here's a video I shot of how it behaves.http://youtu.be/ozzZxJpXF0g Note how pushing the battery compartment door turns it on again. Then as soon as I set it down it goes out again. It's almost as if the batteries are too short! I have used other brands of batteries with no better results.
I used a screwdriver to pull up the contacts inside the compartment. The strobe was in storage for a while (without batteries) and already tried rubbing the contacts with pencil eraser and rolling the batteries, as suggested in this thread: http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00ciHC
But this problem started before storage. At first the unit would suddenly shut off once in a blue moon and then more often. Now, after storage, it is in this shape, more off than on.
Has anyone ever tried putting some kind of metal or spring inside the compartment to further squeeze the batteries?
Any help would be much appreciated. I dread having to spend money on repair or drop several hundred dollars on another flash.

  12.
Hello and thank you for all the great responses.
I did try rolling the batteries and also used pencil eraser. Finally it started. However, it keeps going out. When I press the battery door really hard, it starts again and then goes out again unpredictably. IT definitely has something to do with the battery compartment.
I am using brand new batteries. Not rechargeables.
I used a screwdriver to pull up the contacts inside the compartment.
13.
I pulled out my SB-600 after extended not using it (didn't have batteries in it during storage) and it won't turn on.
I am wondering if I should find a local repair shop as I always had my repairs done,
or whether the Internet has changed things and it is better (price, service, etc) to ship it to some online repair shop.
If that is the case, please kindly recommend any outfits you can recommend.

But if tradition still holds, and local is better, I am in LA area (Marina del Rey) in case someone here can recommend a local outfit instead.

Thank you for your help.

  14.
Hello, through searching photo.net I found a category called framing but there is no POST QUESTION link available on the right side of the screen.
Why can't I post in this category? Please let me know how I can post questions related to framing.
Also your site is very slow and got many timeouts and server errors, like this:

Server Error

The requested URL cannot be accessed due to a system error on this server.

AOLserver/4.5.2 on http://www.photo.net
thank you.

  15.
Hello, I finally got myself a canon G9, first step in getting away from digital SLR's, trying to get back to simpler days, less bulk.
I realize it is older technology but I am still amazed how grainy everything at 400 and above is. Please see attachments. Is this typical? Are there things I can do to improve the outcome?
I do a lot of low-light stuff. Is there another manual rangefinder you would recommend with better resoltuion / wider aperature / higher speeds that don't fall apart ? Do the later canons, like G11 and G12, do better?

00Zc8d-416255584.thumb.jpg.6c29f7fda79781c806eec5cbc8225b51.jpg
