Although I am fairly new at digital, I have 30+ years of analog experience. My
question concerns shooting B&W with my new G9. The G9 has a B&W mode and a
sepia mode. Can you get better results using the B&W modes or shooting color
and then converting in PS? Also when shooting infrared (I have an R72) is it
best to switch to the B&W mode or once again shoot in color and then convert?
In the B&W mode will standard contrast filters (yellow, green and red) affect
the digital image like they will with film?

Hi Neil, I have three of these,2-202's and 1-204(battery capable). They are good units that just need to be plugged in and fired a few times to reform the capacitors. If you plug them into AC for about 1/2 hour and then fire them, they should work ok for you. They make a great background light or with a snoot a good hairlight or kicker and the built in slave works well too. Good luck and I hope you can find a use for them.

Keith,
You may have learned an important lesson on giving feedback on Ebay. Never leave feedback until you are sure that all is well. I usually wait 2-3 weeks if I am the buyer and make sure that all issues have been settled to my satisfaction. If I am the seller, I never leave feedback until I have received feedback from the buyer. These are good policies for dealing with Ebay.

EBay!!! Check out current auction listings and you can go back and check out listings that have closed in the last month. Alot depends on the condition and the age.

NPL has been discontinued by Fuji. If you can't find it in stock in the usual places, try Ebay. Kodak still makes a tungsten negative film in 4x5 and 120. It is call Portra 100T and is in stock at B&H in 50 sheet boxes. I found out quite a while ago that fuji was discontinuing and stocked up on all the NPL that I could afford. You should be able to find some short dated or out of date NPL on Ebay. Even out of date NPL should be good if no more that 2 years, or maybe more, out of date. Good luck on your search it is a great film that will be sorely missed.

As you know, the difference between a 45D and the 45SP is the front swing and the micro swing back. I am not sure the the micro-swing back of the SP is that usefull in normal LF photography, but I sure would want the front swing. Front swing and tilt are two of the major ways to affect focus with LF camera movements (I feel the best) This camera that you bought, represented as an SP was not, therefore I would send it back to the seller. Besides $950 for a 45D is a little high IMHO. BTW I shoot a 45VX (paid $650) which is identical to a 45SP except the lack of the Micro-Swing Back movements. It is a great camera and I have heard it referred to as "The poor Man's (or Woman's) Linhof".

Anyone know how many full power flashes I can expect from a fresh battery? I had heard that I can only expect about 150 200WS flashes from the standard NiCad battery if it is in good condition.

I recently picked up a used Norman 200B on the Bay and received it w/o an
instruction manual. It is an older unit that the seller swore had a "very
strong battery" I received it and it was completely dead. It has the older
gray square charger, so I plugged it into the charger and pressed the red
button. The red light came on and charged the battery for maybe 10-15 minutes.
I then plgged in the head and turned it on. The ready-light on the head came
on and I got a couple of flashes, maybe 8-10 and then it was dead again, no
flash. I tried charging it again, this time pressing the red button and
repeating several times. This time I got a few more flashes(full power, 200WS),
maybe 15. My question to you experienced 200B users is: Is this a battery
problem or a charger problem, or both? The seller of course is claiming it was
fine when he shipped it, but I frankly don't know what to think as I have never
used one of these fine portable flashes.

I use the newer Riteway holders with the dark slide lock and I am told that these holders can't be used in Linhof Technikas as the design of the camera precludes releasing the lock button when the holder is inserted.
I really like these holders for the locking dark slide and the number wheels that imprint two digits in the rebate of the negative. Even in my old style Riteways I have noticed no warping at all.
