Thanks for the comment Robert, as you said it's a bit hit and miss a lot of the time. This photo was taken on qualifying day and I did try to slow the shutter speed down on race day, with varied results I guess the panning perfection will come with practice. One of the biggest problems I had was getting shots where either the front of the car was in focus but the rear wasn't or the other way round. I guess it's back to the circuit for the next race meeting for some more practice.

Excellent shot Neil, I will be visiting your portfolio to hopefully see more motorsport photos and get some inspiration for my own. Stuart

    Barn Owl

    Hi Peter

i like this shot and hope to get some like it myself as a friend of mine has 4 Barn owls. I intend to visit him and spend some time just shooting the owls and picking the best out for print. For me I think maybe the crop is a little close but then I am a beginer like yourself and sure that someone will give you a better idea. Keep going and will be looking out for more of your work.

  1. Thanks Indre for the comments on my portfolio, I like this shot a lot as I have seen the end result of someone not being able to stop, but the skis did in the mud and it was hilarious. What made it even funnier was the fact the guy was looking all cool until he realised he was heading for a mud bank. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Shaun, I appreciate the advice. I like to hear where I could improve and next time I go out to shoot the motorsport I will be looking to be a bit more adventurous, hopefully by then I will have a little more experience with the camera and produce some better work. This and all my other Britcar shots were my first time out using my Eos camera and had only got it 3 days before hand, hopefully next time you will see an improvement.

  2. Hi Peter

Like you I am new as well and not to hot on the techi bits yet but I have found that there are a lot of people willing to help I have posted quite a few photos up now and have been quite suprised with the results and the ratings. I put on the photos that I am happy with personally to see what others think and hopefully for the more experienced photographers out there to point out where I can improve my work. Don't give up, keep on pressing that button.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the ideas Juha on this one and the other photo you have cropped it shows me that there is more I can do. I have just got to go out and practice. Don't know about the golden ratio bit, that was a little over my head at the moment like about 3000miles but the one thing you have mentioned is that magazines like 300dpi images. Looking at the properties of all my photos they are 180dpi, for shots that are 300dpi do I need to set the camera to shoot in raw and then will I need any particular software view the images.

Thanks you are fast becoming my personal tutor :)
