  1. <p>Jamie, I am after a co pilot to help me fly a Boeing 737 full of Dulux emulsion into Buchaille Etive if you are up for it. There are a few extra targets on the way including that need taking out - Rannoch Moor (that pathetic island with the tree on it), Southwold Pier (you will die!), Kimmeridge Bay (fill with concrete), but I am quite up for popping into Ikea on the way and wrecking every set of packeted colour pencils and stainless steel forks I can find. We ought to start making a list, infact I may create a new UK thread, even a world wide one...haha<br>

Another way of summarising and continuing the miniaturising effect discussion -<br>

Tilting the focal plane in relation to the sensor causes selective blurring above and below the intersection point (the part of the image that remains in focus). When pointed at a scene containing people or other objects or notable scale, the selective focus effect tricks the eye into thinking that what it is looking at is in fact a macro shot of that the objects are in fact very close to the camera. The result is purely in the viewers minds eye, thats why the effect works more for some than others....</p>

  2. <p>I never tire of seeing them, I shoot my tilt lenses all the time and I still find it fascinating. Its even more fascinating now you can make videos using tilt as well. I am firmly in the thumbs up camp. WHo cares if it is commercial, so is every bloody lowlight seascape or sultry black and white street portrait but they have a huge following. Its a genre and its here to stay.</p>

If you are planning some international flights this summer and wondering how to get your precious camera gear on the plane as hand luggage, you might want to have a good read. Discussing the pros and cons of three 'systems' I use for travel, with weights, sizes and a look at why my knees will pack up in the end! I pay particular emphasis to the 'tardis' called the ThinkTank Airport Acceleration v2.0 which has been the answer to a lot of my travel problems.<br /> <br /> There is also advice on what to pack where, pooling hand luggage and how to survive the worst thing happening, your hold luggage going missing. It all comes from ironing out problems and nerve wracking experiences over the last three years of travel. I am sure many wildlife shooters have a different regime, but I hope this is food for thought.<br /> <br /> Many thanks...<br /> <br /> David</p>

  4. <p>I sell less than three prints a year and I only do it if my arm is twisted. I see print sales as a total waste of my energy and life, but thats me I guess. Framing, hanging, exhibitions, gallery owners etc.... with their preoccupied disinterest, its all bullshit in my experience.<br /> All my work is media related and agency related, I never see a single image anywhere other than my PC, or in WHSmiths. I would much rather sell packs of cards than a print. I would want everyone who visits my website to press click and buy a pack of cards for a tenner, thats what I am going to venture into next.<br /> Take some advice from Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age, "look around at what everyone else is doing.... and dont do that"</p>
  5. <p><a href="http://www.davidclapp.co.uk/articles.php" target="_blank">http://www.davidclapp.co.uk/articles.php</a> <br /> <br /> Here it is, a contraversial report to say the least. I finally got to test a 14-24 back to back with the king of wide angles on my 1DsIII and the results are somewhat unsettling if you are still championing the CZ I am afraid.... <br /> <br /> Let me know what you think, I am always keen to discuss it. </p>

    <p><br>

I hope the 5DII doesnt have the inconsistancies of the 5D when it comes to alternative lenses. The 5D was never built to such super high tolerances, so you could put one adapted lens on a 5D and it would work fine, put it on another and the mirror would just hit the back of the lens. Its a known issue on the alternative lenses world, I dont know what the 5DII will be like, I havent heard anyting as yet. The 1DsII and 1DsIII are the camera of choice for alternative lenses, literally all adapted Zeiss lenses work without a single hitch. <p><br /> The 21mp sensor is going to be just as punishing on glass as the 1DsIII is; many people are going to start to see that wide angles Canon make are just not cutting it, just like I did. I would expect a significant increase in older Zeiss lens sales as photographers uncover that the cameras potential is held back with brand loyalty....</p>

  7. <p>I will certainly fly the flag for the 14-24, but I have just borrowed a 21mm Zeiss so look out for a comparison test on my website which I will be writing this week. I still think no matter what you do its the best multipurpose ultrawide zoom and covers a range of lenses (16-35II, 14 II, 24mm 1.4) and performs with fabulous results, BUT the trade off is manual focus manual aperture, which is not a biggy considering it's the only way I focus landscapes with all my AF lenses.</p>

If you are interested in Exposure Blending and can't quite work out what to do then have a look at this article I

have published. I received a few PMs and emails from people on the forums regarding the technique I used when

browsing the 14-24 write up I did last week.

I thought it might be appropriate to readers on this forum in particular so I have published it today. You can

also download some test shots and do your own blend...

Let me know if you have enjoyed the article or found it useful. I really appreciate it.

  9. Look at it this way -

    Top primes - 14mm II L £1000+, Zuiko 18mm £500 s/h, Zeiss 21mm £1400, Canon 24mm 1.4 £1000

£3500 to cover the same focal lengths, loads of extra weight and camera bag space.

I think people will always admire the Zeiss 21mm, but the other new 18mm isnt receiving rave reviews. The 28mm f2 and the 35mm are great, costing around £500 each... you can see where I am going with this.

On a 21mp sensor the Nikon is by far the best value for money. But to reiterate its the edge to edge sharpness at such a wide range of apertures that makes this zoom outperform the functionality of literally all these lenses combined. It makes total sense from a practical and cost effective point of view as long as the user is prepared to put up with a slightly unorthedox cdompromise (the use of the lens)

  10. Probably, but what you are not considering is corner sharpness. Every version of the 16-35 and the 17-40 has had poor corners until stopped down to f11-f16, the Nikon is sharp edge to edge at f3.5-f16, thats what all this is about, photographer versatitllity with maximum image quality. Try shooting a 16-35 II at f4, not very nice...

If any of you are interested here is a full in-depth look at using the Nikon 14-24 on my 1DsIII. Many people have

a lot of questions regarding the 16-9.net adapter, the way it works, how versatile it is in the field etc so I

have written an article about how to use this lens, not a comparisons article, but one with considerations and

questions answered that may or may not be relevant to you. No graphs and charts, there are many of these already

    on other sites.

Any comments about the review and these pictures are always gratefully received.

  12. Can you please just delete this post and I will resubmit it in the correct manor? I am fine with doing that, I didnt know about the site links situation. One of them is actually a link to my portfolio here which was unnecessary I now realise.
