What is sounds like to me is that your Camera Raw Preferences are set to store image settings to database, rather than sidecar XMP file. Rest assured that your original raw file isn't being changed. If you want to stop the behaviour, you can go into Camera Raw Preferences and change it to Sidecar file. Since your media is read-only, it won't save the changes to the image settings.

@Peter,

If you want to make this work a little bit better, choose center alignment when creating your text layer. That way, when you change the text, it'll stay centered.

I've created a similar action and it is actually quite simple. Here is the recipe...
1) Start recording your action and place the text anywhere on your image. Accept the text.
2) Hold the shift key and click on the background layer in the layers pallette. This should select both layers and they should both be highlighted in the pallette.
3) In the layer menu, select align then bottom edge . In the layer menu again, select Align then Horizontal Center . This will put your text in the center along the bottom edge.
4) Single click on the text layer in the layers pallette so that it is the only layer selected. Select the move tool and bump the text layer up using your up arrow key to the position you want it.
5) Stop recording.
That should do it for you.

Have you tried something like lytebox or shadowbox? You've most likely seen what these do - darken the page and open the image centered in the browser window. It is fairly easy to implement.
Demo of lytebox by the author can be found at (link) .

You can also create what they call a secure card. Go to the "plugin" page (you don't have to use the plugin) and create a one time use virtual credit card. I use these when I've received money into my account.

If you saved your dng with the option to embed the original raw file checked then the original file can be extracted using the standalone Adobe DNG converter that can be downloaded from their web site.

Hope this helps.

I think that you may be looking for Fujicolor Crystal Archive Pearl. It has crystals embedded in the emulsion that cause it to appear pearlescent. I do most of my printing (floral and landscape) on this paper and really like it.
Here's a link to the brocuhure. http://www.fujifilmusa.com/shared/bin/4225.05-PerlPaper.pdf
I hope this helps.
