  1. I have this lens and a D200 now, coming from a D70. As those using this lens know the " L" shaped

    detachable foot of the

collar has two threaded holes, one closer to the camera body and the second farther. With the D70 I used

the farther hole, while I noticed that the combo with the D200, due to the heavier D200, is better balanced

when attached to tripod on the threaded hole nearer to the body. Being this hole in the same poosition as

the one DIRECTLY on the collar (with the " L" foot removed) my question is: is it possible to use this hole

without the foot or there is any reason not to? Is the " L" foot really needed? Is helping stability, reducing

shakes or else on tripod or monopod? Having any impact on VR on monopod?

    Thanks

  2. Have a look at the Giga Vu Pro Evolution by Jobo. (http://www.jobo.com/usa/products/gvpe/

index.html). It's more geared toward the photographer than the EPSON, even if it lacks

something on the multimedia side. For example it shows the actual RAW file instead of the

little preview embedded. I have the previous model and have ordered the Evolution because

of it's syperior screen and great speed of transfer from cards.

  3. My fault at not beeing clear enough. What I meant was to get the LOOK and saturation of

having used the actual glass filter through a digital polarizer, in one single pass instead of

going through the different steps in PS. This is intended for pictures taken with the Ricoh GR

(an high end P&S) for which there is no polarizer. I never hoped to remove glare or

    reflections!

By the way I have and USE B+W slim polarizers with my 12-24, sorry Younes...

  4. Anyone using digital polarizers via Photoshop plug-in? Is it worth to buy one? If so, which is working

better (ie, giving results close to using a phisical polarizer at time of shooting)?

Thanks in advance for the help!

  5. Bill,

very interesting indeed. By the way, what firmware do you have on the D70? The original or

the 2.0 released with the launch of the D70s, supposedly better with noise at high ISO?

    Thanks

  6. I'm fairly new to the Nikon world and digital (D70, 12-24, 80-200/2,8D-ED and the kit

lens). I'm wondering if there is for Nikon something I have for Leica R lenses and find

really usefull at times: the attachment that, mounted on a lens, turns it into a telescope. It

is a small, 3 element lens that easily fits in any bag and can give you a spotting scope in a

    moment.

    Thanks for your help

  7. Why not both? I have them both on my D70 and the neck strap comes in very handy when

you need both hands, as said, or while changing lens, mounting and removing filters or

changing CF card, for example. At every other times I hold the camera by the hand grip

plus a hand strap made by a third party company. You might find that having the neck

strap dangling from the camera is annoying at times but I find the convenience more

    important than the annoyance.

A friend of mine, that has the same, says that keeping the camera by the neck strap one

    looks like your classical tourist...

  8. Hama (the german accessory firm) has one specifically for the R: article # 30713

(www.hama.de). Unfortunately the product description page is in german only and I

don't know if you can order directly. You can find it entering the # in the search

    (suche) field.

    Hope this helps

  9. Before reverting to Bob's suggestion, not always possible in the

field, try to rotate the moving part of the filter (the one you use to

polarize) a few times rapidly counterclockwise. After five or six

times it usually start to unscrew the bottom part. At least it works

for me on the 21-35 with the B+W slim, while I don't usually have

problems with the Leica on the 80-200, as it has a taller gripping

    space.

  10. I just booked a tour of the Sahara part of Lybia for the end of April:

I would like to know of any experience by anyone and

suggestions on lenses, films (print), type of bag (against sand),

care during and after the trip for my camera and lenses, etc.

My equipment: R6, 35-70/4, 80-200/4, (I very much hope to be

    able to get the new 21-35/4), 28/2.8, 50/2, 90/2.8, 180 apo, 2X,

winder, pola and UV filters: what to live behind in order to travel

the lightest without regretting? Anything else to buy?

    Thank you

    Alex

  11. I recently purchased the 80-200/4 ROM to be used with a R6.

Since I'm afraid that the weight of the lens can be tough on the

mount, I would like to know if any of you has ever used it on a

tripod with any kind of tripod mount that can move the center of

gravity ahead toward the lens front. (Maybe the collar made for

the 100 APO? Can it be fitted?)

    Thanks

    Alex
