Help. I am trying to figure out what this weird multicolored smear is at the base of my Canon FD f1.4. Any insight or thoughts on what to do about will be greatly appreciated.
I recently found my dad's old Canon FTb QL. When I first found it, the light
meter didn't work. I bought a battery at Radio Shack (625A Alkaline I believe)
and replaced the old. The light meter still doesn't work. I know the
instruction manual says to use a mercury 625. So, I'm not sure if it's the
battery or the light meter. Any thoughts? It seems a mercury battery is hard
to find.

I found my dad's old Canon FTb QL this past weekend. I've been tinkering with
it to clean out the dust and clean the lens. After tinking with it last night,
I noticed something different looking through the viewfinder. In the lower
left hand corner of the viewfinder, there is a thin, clear object shaped like a
quarter of a circle with the number 250 imprinted on it. I don't think I
noticed it before when I first stumbled upon the camera. It looks like a
section of a dial and there may possibily be other numbers imprinted on the
wheel, but I'm not sure. I fidgeted with the camera dials and nothing seems to
make the object move.
Any ideas on what it may be? Did I jar something loose when I was cleaning out
the camera?
What is this?

Thank you all so much. This helps a ton. Armed with the information you guys gave me, I contacted a vintage camera shop here in Chicago. They are willing to take a look to see if it is something that can be cleaned. Purely for sentimental reasons, I am going to ask them for a quote. This was my dad's first camera which he bought shortly after immigrating to the US. I know the lens can be replaced with another from ebay, but I'll always know that it wasn't the lens my dad purchased and kept all these years. As long as the price doesn't completely dampen my nostalgia, I'm going to see if it is possible to clean it up. If I could ask one more question, if this is oil that came from the aperture blades, should I ask the repair shop to take a look there and clean that up as well?
