  1. Valokarnevaalit 2008 (i.e. Carnival of Light) @ Linnanmaki amusement

park, Helsinki. This young fire acrobat tied some contraption on her hips,

lit it up and started to swing. Long exposure and this excellent wooden

platform for support created this image which I was supposed to name

"Orion's Belt", a big cliche. Fortunately there are more belt-themed

constellations, so more fitting for this picture with young female acrobat

with her mighty belt was indeed the "Belt of Venus"... ;-) Thanks for any

    feedback!

    "Got nose?"

Remember this from your teenage years? Trying to catch your nose with

your tongue? Well, our cat Nestori has his own teenage streak right

here... ;-) Thanks for any feedback!

  2. Few pointers:

    1. A sturdy tripod for long exposures. 6, 8 and 10 second exposures demand this.
    2. Manual focus to target area. Autofocus just won't work.
    3. Nice landscape aperture, from f/8 to f/22.
    4. Low ISO for less noise. Nikon of course has superior noise control so go crazy! ;-)
    4. Play with focal lenghts and composition, and choose your favourite. Make sure that everything that you want to be in the picture is in the picture. Rather crop later than zoom too much.
    5. First shots should be for setting up the gear. Shutter speed, aperture, focus, etc.
    6. When you get the settings right, just shoot, shoot and shoot. Don't admire the results all the time, you don't want to miss the action.

And of course so often overlooked tip...

    7. Makes sure the wind blows away from you. If there's smoke between you and the fireworks, the images are messy.

I've never before shot fireworks, but this article helped me quite a bit. All of these pointers are mentioned here:

    "flowers IV"

Some summer flora. A slight mist on the lens created this blur effect

which seems to work better than total sharpness. Thanks for

comments! And perhaps a hint what flowers are these... ;-)

Remarkable job! I was just browsing top-rated photos skipping even the highest rated shots and then this came along. This one stopped me totally. In this picture I see myself as an old man, still admiring the grace and beauty that cat represents. The kitten isn't at all afraid of the large figure leaning over it. The kitten sees a friend and makes the contact.

    Truly powerful stuff. Thanks, Josephine.
