  1. Update; i took a look at several bags including the 335, Domke F2 and LowePro Pro Mag. Why is it so $?**!@ difficult?!

    The Billingham, while very good, was fiddly for me to open (i have big hands). The Domke F2 was good too but too small for my gear and those metal clips are hard to open in a hurry (weddings will be the main use). The LowePro looked good on the web but was too small!

    Any suggestions please? i need to fit in 2 bodies (D2X + D200) with probably the 70-200 and 17-55 attached, plus 85/1.4 and 50mm and batteries, sb800.

    Main criteria: not too obviously a camera bag;

    waterproof or very resistant;

    fits in all the above;

    easy access for carrying and opening at weddings;

    removable inserts to carry books for college.

    If it can only fit one DSLR with lens attached and the other body without this would be acceptable.

    thanks

  2. Edsel,

    I do actually agree with your point (it made me smile) and always look myself before i post - you're right, as a beginner it is best to search first and often leads to reading and learning a lot more. Hope my comment was taken in the good-humoured spirit it was meant!

  3. ..and just so I'm offering something helpful too, I would go with what Peter says above except I'm a beginner- although I sold the 17-35 and went for the extra reach of the 17-55. My kit now consists of 17-55, 70-200 and 50 \1.8. Just want the 85 \1.4 and I feel I'll be 'complete'.. For now!
  4. It's always best to run two types of scanner- although having two AV apps installed at once can cause BIG problems. Our business PCs come with Norton, we uninstall this and use McAfee Virusscan Enterprise instead. For home use I use this plus NAI's Stinger (Google it) which is free and can be run without installation. Although this one doesn't purport to find everything, between them they do a good job. For spyware (another cause of speed issues) I use Ad-Aware (free) and A.N.Other such as Spybot Search & Destroy.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Further to Steve D's answer, see what processes are currently running on the PC (Alt-Ctrl-Del then select Task Manager, processes tab) then order them by Mem Usage) this is for XP by the way. You may be able to kill some familiar processes (QuickTime, ITunes for example) if they are using memory but not needed-if you cant identify one though, leave it alone). Sometimes an app will be closed but still use memory, this will slow the PC..
  6. Thanks everyone for your replies.

    I've just ordered some PS actions which i will apply to some of the images which look flat. Will also be looking at changing the overall colour scheme of my site (if i can decide on a better option!)

    Thanks again for the input,

  7. Anne (and Sarah)- Thanks for the points raised, I'll take another look and make changes where necessary. The guy in the church is one of my favourites- he looks like he's asking for forgiveness to me!

    Amanda- I think it was template 26 or 27, it was a hard choice as they're all good!

    regards,

  8. Hi all,

    I finally bit the bullet and bought a snazzy Bludomain site as an upgrade from

    my old cheap template site.

    www.amberglowphotography.com

    I would be grateful if you could critique my images (no "i hate Flash sites"

    moans please, just constructive stuff). I realise that some images may be

    large/slow but will be addressing this.

    I will shortly be assisting on some weddings so will be able to add more

    images - there is also a client gallery (family birthday) which is password

    protected, if anyone wants to look please email me.

    Many thanks

  9. Apologies if this has come up recently. I've been doing some research into

    image software prices in the UK compared to the US. I used Amazon.com

    and .co.uk as an example and looked for the same versions on both sites. Makes

    interesting reading, i think you'll agree.

    Aperture $209 / GBP207 / Actual direct conversion at today's exchange rate

    GBP105

    CS2 Premium 2.3 $1199 / GBP 944 / Actual conversion GBP608

    Elements 5 $85.99 / GBP55.97 / Actual GBP43.60

    Capture NX $118.95 / GBP91.53 / Actual GBP60.31

    So.. the question is, are we in the UK being ripped off? We pay tax at 17.5%,

    I don't know what taxes are in the States. Are software companies allowed to

    do this? It seems they are making a massive markup in the UK, and Euro prices

    are often similarly high in comparison..Is there a justification for this that

    may have escaped me?

    Would be grateful for any comments.

    Mark
