Well I did do the 'google groups' search before Iposted this question, but it came up with nothing. Since then I have managed to find out what it is, but I still don't know if I actually need to keep these files or if I can safely delete them?

Hi, When i open a canon raw file (cr2 extension) in Photoshop CS, there is
another file created with an extension of xmp. Does anyone know what this is
for? Do I have to keep it or can I safely delete it? Many thanks, Justin.

Well I bought the 70-200 L from B&H in the US. It took less than 5 days to get here, and was delivered by UPS to my door. There was no extra to pay on it (GST, duties, etc). Now when I contacted Canon I spoke with an older guy who very confidently told me that lenses will be honoured under warrenty even if bought overseas. He did state that camera bodies are not the same though.

My 20D works with only 1 battery in the BG-E2 grip.
Don't know the answer on the charging question sorry.

Yeah, DigiRev were good, in fact they were the best 'local Aussie' price for grey import stuff. That and the fact that they are only 50km away from me was a temptation, but still the cost difference was +$220, which is better in my pocket to buy some filters etc....

After a 2-week search for my Canon 70-200 f4L I found B&H was best, cheapest and so far the most helpful and informative. Justin

Thanks. I did try to find out via the ATO but every search string I used came back 'no entry found'. Don't know why. But it looks like it is correct - if the goods have a common value under $1000 then I don't pay GST. This means I can buy a brand new Canon 70-200mm f4 Lseries lens from the US, shipped for AUS$787. Cheapest price here was $999. AND Canon say that lenses have an international warrenty, regardless of where you buy them from! Win-win situation as far as I can see....
-
Read the reviews (and there are many) on the 70-300 DO. That was what made me NOT buy this lens and get a 70-200 f4L for the same $$.

I recently saw a guy selling Canon Lenses from Hong Kong new on Ebay. The
thing that caught my attention was the claim that their is NO GST applicable
to: Camera Lenses or products under $1000 value. Does anyone know if this is
true or do I have to trawl through the Aussie Tax web site to find a
definitive answer... Any info would be appreciated, thanks. Justin.

Excellent - thanks for that.

What lenses are you using? I got an err99 every time I tried to use my brother's Tokina lens on my 20D. He now gets the same error on his 10D. I updraded my camera's firmware the day I got it and have never had the problem with my other 2 canon lenses.

I spoke with Canon in Sydney today. All lenses have an international warrenty, regardless of what country it is bought or if it is a grey import. Camera bodies on the other hand have to be purchased through an authorises dealer in your own country.....
-
Apparently from what I can figure out, if I buy a USA warrentied lens from an authorised USA dealer, then the warrenty is covered by Canon worldwide. If I buy a grey import and it has to go back, I have to send it to the shop I bought it from.
BTW- I can't get tis d-d-photographics website to work, is anyone else having any problems? J.

After trying a couple of lenses on the week-end, and reading hundreds (well it
feels like that many)reviews from professional and users, I have finally
settled on buying a Canon 70-200mm f4L.
So far no-one has said they can fault the lens, so if anyone here wants to
debate that, please do so I can learn more.
Best price from a dealer in Brisbane is $1130. Best price on the net is B&H
Photo at AUD$825 delivered. Anyone know of any place chaeper that's not a
grey import?
Cheers in advance,
Justin.

BrisVegas - Queensland.

The US website has them for US$560... but doesn't that equal A$985 + freight + GST if customs get you? Is it usually worth buying lenses from overseas?

The cheapy 18-55 felt like rubbish. The end wobled around at full extension and the movement felt yuk. All of these, of course, are personal opinions.....
When quoting prices, I was just using Canon's website RRPs.... wasn't intending to be correct with ebay 2nd hand pricing.
-
After reading heaps about zoom lenses, I have decided on a 70-300IS. Trouble
is I can't find one. PhotoContinental here in Brissie don't have any and have
no ETA on them, which they say is unusual for Canon. I've tried watching eBay
but there are no second hand ones and the new ones are all over priced.
Anyone know why Canon can't supply? Would it be anything to do with the
problem they had in portrait mode that there was a recall on?

After buying a 20D body about 2 months ago, I have been looking around for
lenses. The first one I bought (because it was cheap) was the standard 18-55
for $95 off ebay. That was a horrible chaep lens, so a week later I sold it.
I now have a 17-85 IS lens and it is great.... except....
Yesterday I borrowed a friends canon 75-300 cheapy that came with his 350D. I
took the same shots with both lenses and the cheap 75-300 came out just as
good a pic as my 17-85IS. There was also a lot more CA on my 17-85. At around
$600 difference in price, I would have expected a huge difference in pic
quality between the two.
Any Ideas?
