My dad bought a Minolta Maxxum SPxi about 15 years ago, along with a very good 28-200mm Sigma lens. He gave it to me last year because I started taking photography at my school. I wanted a digital SLR, but I wanted one that the Sigma lens would be able to fit onto. I was in no rush to get one though, but when I saw that my old lens was able to fit onto the Alpha, I bought it. Well...my dad bought it for me. But on the very day I got my Sony Alpha, the lens broke. Now I'm shopping for a new lens similar to my old one. But the Alpha is not a very bad camera. The Super Steady Shot helps a lot.

I found a 28-200mm lens for aout $80.00 at B&H.
That lens will fit, will it? Since it's for the Minolta Maxxum...

I have a few questions about these lens brands...
- How is the quality of these two lens?
- Will they break easily?
- Would you recommend these brands? Why or why not?
I'm looking to buy a zoom lens somewhere between 18/28mm-200/300mm.

Jim,
I'm looking for an autofocus zoom lens, maybe an 18-200mm, 18-300mm, 28-200mm or 28-300mm. I found a lens on eBay with a starting bid at $40.00, but I don't know if it will fit on my camera for sure, even though the seller claims it will. It's a 28-300mm (I think the seller made a typo and didn't type the 8) Maxxum AF Zoom Lens by Vivitar.

Thanks for all of the replies. I decided to buy a new lens. I went with a Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.5.
Here are some photos I took for my photo class with my old and new cameras.
