1.
Hi:
I've been using the same camera / lens setup for a few years and recently have experienced shutter delay on all shots. The delay happens most of the time, and in some cases i cannot even get the camera to take a shot. I have tried new CF cards. I have not tried a diff lens.
Rebel xti (circa 2007) current mounted lens is a 17-40/2.8L. Do not have an alternate lens at this time.

Any advise for me? Thanks very much.
2.
I like this last suggestion from a financial standpoint. Will pushing up the ISO (to 800 or 1600)+IS allow me to get shots indoors at f/5.6?
Am i selling myself short by spending $1100 on the 100/2 + 70-300/4-5.6 instead of going for the 70-200/2.8L IS?
Once i pull the trigger on a 5d Mk2, will i find the 70-300 useless?
Thanks for all of your input,
3.
As my children grow older, i see the need to add a lens. I shoot with a dig rebel xti and have a 17-40/4L and a 50/1.8.
My recent venue is a 4 yr old gymnastics class. The light is ok; mixed overhead and natural light through windows yet my subject can be up to 50 feet away. For this situation, I am considering the 100/2 or the 135/2L if it is really worth the extra dough. Are these going to be long enough?
For outdoor shots, during the day, also from longer range, will one of the above be suitable or should i also be looking for a zoom lens? I read that the 70-200/4 and 2.8 are great, but if i went this route, i would forgo the aforementioned primes due to the hefty cost of this option.
to summarize, i would like to spend less than $1000. I like the versatility of a zoom in that i could grab the camera and run outside for photo ops (near and far) but want a fast enough lens for indoors. I am a recreational photographer, but don't mind spending the $ on equipment that will outlast me, and work on upgraded bodies.
I look forward to your suggestions.

  4. I have an xti and a 17-40/4 L lens. When I am shooting at 17mm and am approx 1 meter from my

subject, using the built in flash, I get a shadow of the lens (i think) in my image. I took a couple frames of

    a white wall at 1meter and 1.5m, 17mm, and attached 2 here.

Is it that this setup is limited? Or is it me?

    thank you

    Rick

  5. I am looking to buy an xti, and the online retailers clearly have the best prices. Anyone with experience

buying from "bestpricecameras.com"? They seem to have the lowest prices by far.

    thank you.

  6. everyone, thanks for your answers.

I think that I will go with the 85/1.8. As long as no one chimes in on the 100/2.0.

I also think that a zoom is in my future. I will post later for recommendations. This is a great

    forum.

    again, thanks.

  7. I plan to buy a rebel xti (or do i?) and need help with the right lens to buy. I am an enthusiastic amateur

photo'er with a very speedy toddler or a very still nature scene. I have read no less than 1000 lens posts

but am still a bit lost. I am intrigued by the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS lens and the 24-70/2.8L but will I know

what I am missing if I don't spend a grand?

If I could get advise where; money is no object and money is a bit of an object (can I get a decent lens for

    $500?).

...do you question the xti IF money is no object? I am all ears.

    I really appreciate the help.

    Rick
