1.
Hello, I am not a PRO but I care about photography and the product delivered. Someone said to go to school, but the street could work better for you.
Don't get upset about critiques, learn from them. A lot of these photographers are upset because they feel people like you (and me) take too many business from them; The reality, many of these weddings would not hire a professional photographer, so they give a chance to a aspiring PRO to prove themselves. This is good for all here, the photographer who would get insulted with the compensation offered, the aspiring PRO in need of experience, the couple who usually get relatively good or professional shots for free or a low budget. There are eternal discussions here criticizing those who fail to deliver, and rightly, because you should only take the job when you know you can deliver, it's too important a day to be learning (do we ever stop?)
My advise, is to have professional equipment if you plan to present yourself as that. Until you know you can deliver as a PRO, and have the equipment don't present yourself as a professional.
I personally almost never use flash unless as fill flash in daylight, I do all manually with available light, constantly changing settings. Many places don't allow it and it's too intrusive for my liking. Until a few months ago I had a Canon rebel XT with beginner lenses and got good results in low light weddings(yes, go figure) but lacked the crispness and image quality I saw in other people pics. I upgraded equipment after 5 years learning everything I could with that system, and as they say, you wonder why in hell didn't you upgraded before.

Good luck with the clients
