Very nice, but I think the sky is a little too intense, giving an unnatural feel here. I'd recommend a graduated ND filter to help balance FG/BG brightness, and a little lighter touch on the saturation. Composition is good, and the atmosphere is nice otherwise. Thanks for sharing.

30 sec exposure, flash from another camera at just the right moment...
tell me what you think, and suggest how to improve this technique...
thanks!

Good to see you again. As above, I pegged this on you from the thumbnail. Excellent work as always.

Last in series, 10-25-09, South Bradenton Beach, Anna Maria Key, FL,
derelict pier minus fisherman and heron, f/7.1 and 30 seconds with 0.9
hard grad nd filter and overexposed sky; critiques/comments always
welcome, even if you think it's crap. Thanks.

Oh, no! I finally put netting up to protect my fish due to this very situation. Poor Fred. We barely knew him...

Mark, thanks for the excellent feedback. I see what you mean about the hand : )... it is hers. This shot was taken in the midst of someone else's photo shoot (they were cool with me shooting too, but I was trying to stay out of the way) so she was looking at them and not me. I'm not sure I agree that the subject should always make eye contact with the camera, but in this shot I think it might be a slight improvement. I'll work on cloning the hand out and see what it looks like afterward. Thanks again!

Some skin retouching, vignette, contrast and saturation adjustments
from original. Any recommendations for portrait editing or otherwise
welcome, thanks!

As I was walking to the beach, I passed a family of four being
photographed by a girl with a fancy camera and an external strobe on a
wireless dealie. Sunset in background, everyone in khaky pants and
white shirts, smiles all around. I walked on to the beach and began
setting up for my own trite, cheesy, cliched sunset photo. As I
mounted my camera on my tripod, I looked up to see a chick with a
fancy camera and external strobe, followed by a suburban looking family
of four, strolling down to the waters edge to set up for some more
commercial tourist shots. Fifteen feet in front of the spot I had just
chosen. Smack dab between me and the sunset. Directly in my shot.
I guess it musta been her beach. Maybe she didn't see my camera
pointing her direction. Maybe she just felt entitled because someone's
paying her to take cheesy sunset shots of thier kids. [unintelligent]
[female genetalia]. So I packed up and moved to about five feet in front
of her sunset. She was not very happy. By then, I was. I didn't see her
results, but I'm thinking this is probably more appealing. I'm also
thinking with a scene like this, it's hard to screw it up.

A bird, and a sunset. It's not cliche photography, it's fine art. And it's
what was in front of me at the time. Comments welcome. Thanks.

Taken with p&s film camera, Portra 400VC, Honolua Bay, Maui.
Thinking we should have gone for 800 speed film here... nice snorkel
anyhow, comments welcome.

I think I'd be looking for cover here... that does not look like a normal attitude :)

Thanks! Shot next to a hotel on Maui, existing street light and
moonlight only used for composition. The FG turned out brighter than
expected, and I'm thinking my 0.6 grad ND might have helped at the
bottom of the frame... too late now, as I'm about 5000 miles away from
this place :)

By closer I was suggesting zooming in or cropping tighter (prefer the zoom option if available), and I feel you about the window. Always something, eh ; )... nice shot, anyhow

I think the laid-on vignetting is a little too prominent here, and I would try to bring up the tones in the dog's face as a focal point a bit while bringing down the reflections on the rocks under him. Good comp to work with, and a good bit of interesting detail here.
