1. I have a Manfrotto ball head that I bought several years ago. It has been to hell and back!. Recently the head

stopped gripping. When it first happened i spit on the head and it gripped. It was a good quick fix in the field.

Today I bought some denatured alcohol and tried to clean the ball with that. It is still having trouble gripping

the ball. Does anybody know what else I can do? Or is this the end of the road for this head? Please help, as I

am on a one month tour of the southwest and am in desperate need of a working tripod.

    Thanks!!

  2.
Ben, that's a good point you have. Has Epson stepped up their paper quality? The last time I printed anything out, they had glossy, semi-glossy, and matte. I really enjoy printing on some of the fine art papers.
And as far as the B&W thing goes, I think I may be saving up a bit more for the 2880. The things that I would be printing are primarily B&W.
Thanks All

  3.
i'm in the market for a new printer. but for the past 6 years, printing is something that i have ignored. when i was in school i remember hearing that epson and canon were the best in the market. my price range is $200-400. what are some things that i should be looking for when trying to choose a new printer? i do a lot of fine black and white work, so i would like to get a printer that has the ability to make a fine print. i would also like one that is able to print more than an 8x10. any suggestions on specific printers or things i should be looking for (ink type, paper, etc)?

thanks

  4.
i did a turorial on lynda.com with chris orwig, 9 hours of training. he suggested that you don't let your catalogs get too big. i had one catalog for about 700gb's. and it was really slow. LR would freeze up, crash, or take a long time to switch between modules, or even between tools.

so i split up my catalogs to about 1 years worth of photos. this doesn't seem all that efficient though. if i want to do a search with keywords, i'll only be getting photos keyworded within that one catalog. LR works much faster now that i have minimized the catalog size. so i have cured the problem of slow, but it sure isn't the most efficient way.

  5.
i have subscribed to lynda.com for the month. because i have no job and plenty of time on my hands right now, i figured i would expand my horizons and learn as much as possible about other aspects of photography.
i had a buddy build me a website a few years ago. joshschutz.com i have access to the blog and i find that wordpress is fairly intuitive. the rest of the site isnt what i want on many levels. i use godaddy for my domain. i believe i can use them for my host as well. anyways, i am planning on using dreamweaver to build my site. would you suggest another program, or maybe a different path all together to go down. like i said i am a newb to web design. to be honest with you i'm not sure if i could fully tell you the difference between flash and html. where should i start?
thanks for the help everyone.

  6.
it sounds like i need to specify my market. i thought that the point of a stock portfolio was to have as many shots in as many different situations possible. but i never even thought about specifying my market. i have tens of thousands of rafting and kayaking photos. and after searching some of the shots on the stock sites, i realize that i have do have something far more marketable. thank you for your comments and the insight to help me along my way.

  7.
im looking to get into stock photography. i would like to steer clear of the big corbis and getty. i have heard a number of bad things about them. i'm looking to start a smaller company hosted by someone else. the ones i have seen so far are photoshelter.com and licensestream.com does anyone else know of some stock agencies they would recommend

  8.
I recently got a D300 and i have been shooting in 14 bit raw. For some reason these files are not showing up in bridge or in CS2. I got a message saying that it was not the right kind of document. I looked for updates and nothing was found. any ideas?

  9.
alright! i found a d300 with the 18-200 vr lens for $1700. My ex girlfriends dad is hooking me up. there is about 5500 shutters on it already. it has been serviced by nikon recently. im getting it tomorrow. and because of my work, i'll be able to fire off at least 2000 shots before the wedding. thanks for the input guys. i dont think i will regret it.
