  1. WOW! I didn't expect to cause this much debate, but hey thanks everyone for your contribution, it's all gratefully received.

PETER: Yes I get that, and yes, I was looking to get a print the same as what I saw in by binoculars. However, the longer lens such as 500mm also adds compression which was desireable. I wanted to capture waves out at sea such as http://www.photo.net/photo/6619793 where you feel you are there. Taking a crop does not get the same feeling.

GARY: How can I use my binoculars in a portrait format?

Mark U: That all sounds to make the most sense and yes they are 5 degree view. I guess somewhere between 450mm and 500mm may give the most accurate result.

Thank to you all for your great input. Eddie

  2. Simon: Yes I'm in the UK also, the North East and I suppose I should feel safe with all the cameras around the town, but they are there for a good reason. When I lived in Hertfordshire you could leave your car unlocked and it was perfectly safe, you can't do that here, lol

    Eric: Yes you're right. Cheers.

  3. I've recently upgraded from the 20D to the 5D and something has happened I

didn't expect - I'm scared of getting it pinched and it's affecting me using

    it to the full.

I do mostly sunrise shots and where I live there are often people still coming

our of night clubs and pubs in the early hours. Even today in broad daylight I

did not take it out of the bag on the beach as there were a few dodgy looking

people about. Will I get over this, and am I right in thinking most people

know the value of my gear, especially with the white lens attached. How do you

deal with this, or am I being silly.

    Eddie
