One of 3 I posted today. Capturing these buggers in flight was a
challenge. Your comments are welcomed, cheers, John.

D80 + Kit 18-55, who needs a stinking macro!

Thank you for all the complementary comments. I stumbled on the composition while working on the original (zoomed in cloning out a dead pixel).
Stanley, indeed the lens used was the humble 18-55 kit lens. I guess it looks longer since this is a crop from the original. EXIF - Focal length 55mm, ISO 100, F8, 1/160. Cheers, John.

Feeding time. Alligators at Audubon Zoo New Orleans. Alligators often
use this tactic to grab birds from overhanging branches. Hope you like.
Cheers, John.

nice shot and I agree b/w suits it, you may want to try a sepia version too. Thx for the large image size too!!

Hi Ann,
Here's a few bits of advice that may help you out.
1. Crop to focus on the subject, I feel there may be too much empty space top and bottom.
2. You may have a little camera shake here that softens the image
3. If you have the software try a little unsharp mask, I used 0.5 pixels and approx 40% and did it twice. Seemed to help a little.
I'll try to post a version based upon the above.
Look forward to seeing more.
Cheers,
John

A great moment you have captured, the composition is great, even the faces in the background contribute to the overall emotion of the moment, very well done., Cheers, John

Orangutang at New Orleans Zoo.
Compared to the Gorillas (see my other photo) these guys were really
showing off to the crowd. Rolling around, jumping, swinging, sliding
around, in general having a great time. I was pretty pleased to grab this
shot. Cheers, John.

Rubel,
The colors are as shot, in fact I slightly reduced the saturation in Photoshop.. Fortunately my home monitor is calibrated so I'm confident that the color is accurate. I'm at the office right now on a laptop with external monitor hooked up. The laptop display is ok, on the 19" monitor the colors look awfully over saturated!
As a side note the flamingos are fed colored food to mimic the food they eat in nature which creates the colored feathers.

Female gorilla at New Orleans zoo. An interesteting behaviour, she was
clearly not amused by the large crowd that had gathered. She would
often turn her back to the crowd. Grabbed this expression which
seemed to sum up her feelings.

Number 2 of 3. Of all the photos I took yesterday, this one I like the
most.
Not the sharpest but the pose is pleasing.
Cheers, John
