A Front UV filter on every lens for protection (against damage) ? in Nature Posted April 12, 2000 Maybe it is a stupid question, because on all my lenses I have a front lens (UV) for protection. Newly I have the 500mm Canon IS but I didnt buy a front filter (UV). Canon claim that the 500 mm lens is weather resistant but is it really so, is there danger that the front glass will get damaged by water (rain, seawater, ore water with sand). Im also afraid to hit something with the front glass but the large (very large ) suncap will maybe prevent this. Thanks
